Penn State leaders showed 'total disregard' for victims,
State College, Pennsylvania (CNN) -- Penn State's leaders showed "total disregard" for victims of child sex abuse and failed to protect children, an internal review has found.
In fact, several senior officials "empowered" former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky to attract more victims for child sex abuse, the report found.
In a statement released along with the 267-page report, Louis Freeh, the former FBI director and federal judge who spearheaded the review, blasted several top former officials at the school.
"Our most saddening and sobering finding is the total disregard for the safety and welfare of Sandusky's child victims by the most senior leaders at Penn State," Freeh wrote.
"The most powerful men at Penn State failed to take any steps for 14 years to protect the children who Sandusky victimized."

Freeh report: Penn State athletic staff knew Jerry Sandusky was showering with kids before 1998

Naming Paterno, former Penn State President Graham B. Spanier, former Athletic Director Tim Curley and Gary Schultz, a university vice president once in charge of the campus police, Freeh said they "never demonstrated, through actions or words, any concern for the safety and well-being of Sandusky's victims until after Sandusky's arrest."

Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.
That is going too far, why hurt future student athletes? Take away (erase from the record books) all PSU football victories from the 1998 season to the last. JoPa acted as an enabler to a child molester starting in 1998.
They will probably have to take the statue down, it will be vandalized if they don't anyway.

"Paterno knew about a mother's cry that Sandusky had molested her son in 1998. Later, Paterno lied to a grand jury and said he didn't. Paterno and university president Graham Spanier and vice president Gary Schultz and athletic director Tim Curley all knew what kind of sick coach they had on the payroll in Sandusky. Schultz had pertinent questions. "Is this opening of pandora's box?" he wrote in personal notes on the case. "Other children?" "Sexual improprieties?
It gets worse. According to Freeh, Spanier, Schultz and Curley were set to call child services on Sandusky in February 2001 until Paterno apparently talked them out of it. Curley wasn't "comfortable" going to child services after that talk with JoePa."

Did any of you read the report? Personally, I sure as hell don't ever follow the summary opinion of a "journalist".
I read the report and the only new information about Paterno was regarding the 1998 incident:
Curley had "touched base" with Paterno and later Curley asked Schultz: "Anything new in this department? Coach is anxious to know where it stands."
This statement is evidence that Paterno knew of the investigation, but was not directly involved with the "inner circle"; he was on the periphery of the incident with the AD as liason.
After that:
1) The District Attorney declined to bring charges against Sandusky
2) University Police and Department of Public Welfare interviewed Sandusky and advised him that:
---"{Sandusky's} account of the matter was essentially the same as the child's"
---"there was no criminal behavior established."
---"the matter was closed as an investigation."
3) Schultz emailed Curley and Spanier: "I think the matter has been appropriately investigated and I hope it is now behind us."
It mentions that there was no evidence on how this was conveyed to Paterno.
In the absence of any additional evidence, the only logical conclusion is that all involved, including Paterno were briefed on the above findings, accepted the reports from the DA, UP and DPW, and considered the matter closed.
Of course, isn't this what fair-minded, non-hysterical, normal thinking people do when the legal authorities tell them: "there was no criminal behavior established" and that "the matter was closed as an investigation".
Once again, there is much damning evidence against the "inner circle" and I hope they are crucified, but nothing to indicate that Paterno did anything to impede any investigation, cover up any crime or even by action or inaction, anything "immoral".
On an interesting side note, they were talking about setting up a Division III football program at the Altoona Campus and making Sandusky head coach!

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- If he were alive today, Joe Paterno -- the coach who stood for so long for character and integrity both on and off the football field -- could be looking at charges such as child endangerment, perjury and conspiracy.
Legal experts said emails and other evidence in the Penn State investigative report released Thursday suggest Paterno may have misled a grand jury when asked when he first heard about Jerry Sandusky's misconduct, and show that Paterno and other university officials put boys in danger with their failure to report sexual-abuse allegations leveled against Sandusky more than a decade ago.

Freeh described Paterno as "an integral part" of that agreement. According to his report, Spanier, Schultz and Curley drew up a plan that called for reporting Sandusky to the state Department of Public Welfare in 2001. But Curley later said in an email that he changed his mind "after giving it more thought and talking it over with Joe."

Not to anyone specific..more to everyone:
No matter what is said, alot of people around here arent gonna listen to anything because its PENN STATE & Mr Paterno involved in this.
You DONT want the "legacy" to be tarnished. Im having a hard time seeing a difference between the guys who wanted to protect the reputation of the school, and the normal people who fight tooth and nail to defend penn state now.
If it was another school and set of people, you'd be eating it up. Loving every second of it!!!! Dont you get that??
Since its not your child or a family member, you are letting things cloud your view of what is RIGHT. If ANYONE covers up, dismisses, or turns a head to child molestation, they must be eliminated.
Reason it in your head any way you want. Its pretty sick actually.
Take offense if you want. Some things ARE black and white, and is one of them. Youre either right or wrong. To be wrong on this subject doesnt say much for someone as a human being.
I couldnt and wouldnt protect a child molester. Family, friend or whatever. Not only would I hurt them, id then call the police after. Not for justice, because justice wouldve already been done by me...but Id call so the person could be exposed. Names in papers and what not.
Some things require a call above worrying about yourself. Worrying about your job or well being. For some people, clearly not. I am glad I am not one of those people.
Dont reason in your mind or to others, that anyone in this situation did the right thing. They didnt do anything remotely right. Id say someone was paid off too. All to protect some stupid ass football "legacy".
How's that legacy doing now???

If you had a close friend who was prohibited from showering with young boys at a facility that you have god like control over, wouldn't you be just a little curious? Wouldn't you look into why, and what is going on here? I know most of you here would, most everyone would. Some guy going for the alltime college wins record and personal legacy did not. This case does not need CSI type evidence, it does not pass the stink test.

I see that nobody else bothered to read the report. Well let me tell you, its everything you thought it would be:
Since Paterno was a deity, he was omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent. Not only did he hear about these incidents, he sat on his throne on Mt. Nittany and personally watched everything that was going on all over his kingdom, including the locker room. He would have personally struck Sandusky with a lightning bolt, but decided that he would not interfere with the affairs of mere mortals. Its too bad that with all his supernatural powers, he didn't just shove the authorities out of the way, take the investigation up himself and then personally indict, try, convict and execute the monster that he, himself, created from the dust of Happy Valley.
During the investigations, and just for fun, he waved his hand past each investigator's face: "he is not the man you are looking for. nothing happened in the shower."

He also did not look into any of the strange accusations and investigations of his close friend and colleague for the last 30 years. Saint Joepa has COMPLETE CONTROL of PSU Footbal and its facilities. When he heard that this close 30 year friend was prohibited from showering with young boys on PSU property, he was not curious, did not look into this, and kept working on HIS LEGACY. That's all that mattered, PSU FOOTBALL AND THE PATERNO LEGACY.
No CSI evidence is needed to say this is horrible. If you found out your closest friend was told not to shower with young boys, what would you do? Just ignore that or look into why and what the hell is going on?

You should give 2 shits about how we came close to having a division 3 team with a child rapist right in our backyard.KeithReynolds wrote:lonewolf wrote:What? No comment on this? I graduated twice and worked there for 7 years. Spanier came onboard right after i started working there and I never liked the SOB and his policies. In 1996, I had the opportunity to be the Bryce Jordan Center's IT Admin, but turned it down because they expected 12 hour days. I'm glad that didn't happen because I would be right in the middle of all this shit. I can see it now...18 hour days combing backup tapes for emails.

Who is we? Most people in Blair County have absolutely no connection to Penn state Altoona campus, besides the taxes stolen from us.lonewolf wrote:You should give 2 shits about how we came close to having a division 3 team with a child rapist right in our backyard.KeithReynolds wrote:lonewolf wrote: What? "We" is anybody who lives near the Altoona Campus and could be affected if a child rapist worked there. "We" are another community who might have been exposed to the sordid acts of a monster.undercoverjoe wrote: Who is we? As for the taxes, I guess you'll just have to get the PA Constitution changed.
