Hello, my name is Songsmith, and I am a sycophant. I've been lucky enough to know The Hurricanes since before they were The Hurricanes. A long time ago, I was trying to be a harmonica player, and they allowed me to sit-in regularly, even though I was not so good at it.
That's class.
I can tell you everything Felix ever taught me on guitar, and where we were when he taught me, down to the exact place and time. When he shows me something, I remember it, because it's something he learned the hard way.
That's experience.
I specifically remember the candle-light show at Peter C's, even though I didn't sit in that night, because it's the best overall night of local musical entertainment I've ever witnessed, and I've seen more than a few. All 3 players were the best I've ever seen them, and every note made me want to hear the next one. Ask anyone who was there, it was magic.
That's passion and talent.
I have a standing invitation to perform with The Hurricanes, any time I want, and they listen to my band's CD on the way to gigs.
That's friendship and respect.
If that makes me a sycophant, so be it. I hope everyone has someone like them.

Actually, Pete, you are absolutely right. The thread was started on the subject of tribute bands and I posted without saying anything on that subject. I admit I shouldn't have done that and I sincerely apologize.

So, on that subject...
Personally, I think no one has the right to judge anyone else who's doing what they love. Whether you're a single band tribute or playing a variety of covers or doing a mix of originals and covers doesn't matter. Playing music that you love is what counts.

No one COULD keep up singing like that. Dynamics are important. So are your feelings, so trust me, I'm being as diplomatic as I can be.

If I worked as hard as I worshipped, I might have a CD selling like crazy, and be playing 4 or 5 states. Maybe we'd be super-busy. Maybe.
Maybe what I've learned from those guys HELPED me toward my own things. If you need me to choose sides, I choose them.

It seems like you're giving everyone an ultimatum: patronize you, or suffer the wrath. You seem to ignore the fact that nobody's coming to your defense. I hope you've learned something. It'd be a shame if you didn't, after burning so many bridges. I've burned bridges here, but just a few crazies and crybabies. None of it hurt my career, or theirs.
