Not sure

I am not really sure what happened but the "Wing Offs" at Lakemont Park are also scheduled to take place competing against the ones at Legion? Go figure...

Mama Corn's up against my buddies in Half-Tempted on July 19th. That's pretty good company, right there. While I hope to see how bluegrass draws at a Wing-Off, I hope they do well, too.
There'll probably be a gully-whumper thunderstorm, and kill both crowds (sigh).

Such seems to be the luck of playing outdoor gigs in PA.

Check it out about half way down the page...

Same nights...

But that will be awesome because the crowds are always so large this way there will be room for everyone... JK..

Should be interesting..

The Lakemont wingoffs started charging a $5.00 admission fee last year. Seems like that is still there.

Looks like the Legion Park wingoffs are free admission. Gee, I wonder which one will do better?

Seems like "Someone" made a big deal about the Wing -Offs charging $5 so they starting a second competing event... Much like the 2 Arts Festivals in State College...

... both of whom get nice crowds. I'd play at either one.
I've been keeping an eye on this situation, because MC is at this Thursday's lakemont Wing-Off. I've spoken with people who went to both shows last week. On one hand, the Legion Park deal had a tremendously large crowd and a great band. On the other, the wings were more expensive, took 3 hours to get, and parking was atrocious. Two of the folks I talked to left there and went to the other one simply because it was much easier, and there were rides for the kiddies.
This week, the Legion Park deal has probably learned from their mistakes, and will have every available chicken-fryer onsite, as well as a "legion" of parking attendants. People with kids will still probably prefer Lakemont. This may actually turn out to be win-win for musicians. Twice as many opportunities to play, and each organization works that much harder to better their respective events. All the while pulling the notoriously-fickle Blair County audience out of the air-conditioned homes for some music, beer and chicken-wings.
I'd play either show.

wing off

Mysterytrain plays at Lakemont on July 26.

I've never been to any of the wing offs so I don't know what to expect.

Songsmith... is there a stage? How is the sound system?
Keep on keepin' on,

There is a stage, with power, the one they've been using for years. I still have no clue who's doing sound, and nobody's asked for a stageplot/line-list. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for the best, but my PA's in the truck if I need it.

I agree I think it's a Win-Win for musicians....

Twice as many chances to play if you ask me......

Which is why I don't get why some of my band friends have given me crap for starting the Facebook page and being interviewed by the Altoona Mirror etc etc....
