I took a beating a few years back trading in an American Strat. I'm sure you would do much better selling it yourself so you need to decide to you want what its worth or do you wanna unload it ?
Don't bitch to me about the economy while you're still buying Chinese products.

A real deal early 80's Bernie made Rich in great condition is worth at least 2,500. They are highly sought after by collecters. I wouldn't let it go for less than that.

Even the most reputable musical instrument dealers are going to pay wholesale price for a pre-owned instrument, which is generally less than you'd get from a collector paying closer to retail. You're better off to market the guitar on related websites, or even Craigslist... that way YOU decide what it's worth to you, and if that's too much, it's YOUR call to drop the price.
As "part-time retail help" in a music store, I can tell you that sometimes customers just HAVE to have that shiny new toy, and are willing to take a beating on the old one. As a musician, I can tell you that your shiny new toy becomes an old one pretty quick. If you must trade it in, choose an acoustic that'll still be around 30 yrs from now, or it's not such a great deal.

Last I heard, Guitar Center will offer you 60% of the used retail price. Even with all their fees, eBay will bone you way less than a trade-in will. Your best bet might be a forum like Gear Page where there's a decent chance of finding collectors who would scoop it up at a fair price.
