What do bands and artists consider the best recording studio in the area? Who do you consider as the top producer in the area? What kind of 'perks' do the bands and artists receive? Has any band, or artists, make the 'big time' that came from the Altoona area? I'd like to hear your response to your questions, please? Just send me a e-mail! Rock on, ZARAGON [A & R, etc...!]
The only famous Rock Person that I know of from Altoona is Thom Mooney. He met Todd Rundgren at Penn State and they went on to form "The Nazz" which was a highly aclaimed band before Rundgren went solo. I can't think of the name of their hit song but it was great. One of the very 1st songs using "Flanging". He later went on to play in the power trio "Paris" with the guitar player from Fleetwood Mac.
The Jefferson Airplane's 3rd drummer was Joey Covington from East Conamaugh who left Johnstown with a band called "The Vibrasonics" and tried to make it in California. Gracey Slick saw him playing in a club out there and picked him up. You can see him playing drums in the Woodstock movie.
The 3rd famous person from this area is John Homerski. (Maybe he's not really famous, but he should be).
