There were several bands in the 60s who were the catalysts of what would become heavy metal; one of which was Blue Cheer, who are credited as being one of the pioneer bands of heavy metal.
Blue Cheer was a blues band who's guitarist went to Sears and bought a Sears Fuzz Tone Control.

Don't let Dazed And Confused and Paranoid make you dazed and confused and paranoid.
Because of all the acoustic and clean-tone guitar work, I never considered Led Zep to be a metal band.
Geezer is quoted in the liner notes of the box set "Symptoms of the Universe" that LZ was a BIG influence and they even went as far to worry that Paranoid sounded too much like LZ.
LZ weren't always "metal" but when they were, it was awesome.
The old Sabbath vs. Zeppelin thing again...this thread took a train wreck right into a pile of shit and came out smelling like politics.. Man I love that smell.
The names change up every so often as I hear new stuff, but as of right now, I've been locked into four names that I can't stop listening to: Porcupine Tree (the longest-running, I've been hooked on them consistently since they opened for Yes at the Bryce Jordan Center several years ago), Fair to Midland, Lacuna Coil and Volbeat. Shinedown has been growing steadily with me as well; Amaryllis will be one of my next CD purchases.
As far as more classic stuff, early '70s Yes and Peter Gabriel-era Genesis have been doing more time in my CD player of late; I can't ever get tired of hearing that stuff!
My gf is a huge fan of Volbeat...they got a song or two I've been diggin'...but I'd have to say the new Megadeth has gotten some steady airplay at my crib as of late.
Why do you need "props" so badly? This threads NOT about you or your goofy drunken antics. Its for everyone to share what music they have recently been digging a lot.
You're about the biggest attention whore I've ever encountered.
Anyway back to the topic, for the past 2 months I have been on a huge Blood For Blood kick. Gets me pumped up, makes me feel good.
