HOMEGROWN ROCKER 4/8/12 (JEFF WALLACK SHOW PREVIEW)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 8 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

This week, we previewed the 8th annual Jeff Wallack Memorial Show. Remembering a popular and respected guitar player from the Altoona area music scene who passed away on April 2, 2005; the 8th annual show in his memory happens on Saturday night, April 14, at Pellegrine’s in Altoona, and proceeds from the show will benefit the Jeff Wallack Music Scholarship Fund. Thanks to our guests, Todd Giornesto (Giornesto), Ron Dalansky (Half Tempted) and Rich Piccerillo (As U Fall Away) for helping to preview the show, and for sharing Jeff Wallack memories. We remembered Jeff by playing several tracks featuring his guitar work, plus music by some of his band contemporaries from the 1980s and 1990s to provide several “Local Music Flashbacks” during the show. We also reviewed Sinister Realm’s The Crystal Eye CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

COINMONSTER – “Watching the Insects”
WHITE WITCH – “Prince of Darkness”
RAPID FIRE (former) – “Black Star” (performed live 5/86 at Cisco’s, Altoona)
RAPID FIRE (current) – “Unbreakable”
GIORNESTO – “Restless”
GIORNESTO – “Death’s Vengeance” (1989, Local Music Flashback)
FATAL MAIM – “Molest and Maul” (1990, Local Music Flashback)

HOUR TWO:

WINE OF NAILS – “Vibeland”
NAILDRIVER – “Executioner”
SINISTER REALM – “The Shroud of Misery”
JEFF WALLACK – (untitled jam)
I.O.U. – “Listen with Your Ears” (1985, Local Music Flashback)
BEYOND REASON – “Enlightened Years Away” (1993, Local Music Flashback)

On our next show, we will speak via phone with members of Lebanon-area rockers Shift Seven. We’ll meet the members and learn their story, and hear songs from their latest CD Love Lust. We will also update “Local Music News,” dig into the archive for another “Local Music Flashback,” and review Borrowed Time’s This Old Dirt Road CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” Shift Seven joins us by phone on the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!
