Do Your Own Repairs?
Do Your Own Repairs?
So how many rockpagers do their own repairs/builds? Whether its guitar/bass/pedals/drums/amps etc etc. what kind of repairs are you familiar with?
When i started i could barely string my own guitar. But after years of trial and error and asking a million questions, i can do pretty well. Currently im pretty good at rewiring and installing pick ups. I can set up a strat pretty quickly. Set my intonation for different gauge strings and setting the action to different preferences. I'd like to get more familiar with other style guitars though.
I know how to handwire and build my own pedals. Thanks to Barry Steindel. And i can do my own painting, my dad taught me how to paint years ago.
I want to get into building small wattage tube amps at some point. its just a pricey hobby.
anyone else? what kinda stuff can you repair/build? post pics of stuff if you want.

I do most of my own repairs except for broken guitar necks. Lights, PA, guitars & amps and just about anything that you can get parts for.
I also do amp/preamp mods and if you go on the ADA site, my version of the SS mod is the most popular MP1 mod. I also made stuff like a 4 channel MIDI amp switcher and some other accessory type stuff.
When I can't fix something, I usually go to Ken Oyler at Ford Music.

...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...
I do everything that I can to guitars. I've never done anything with amps or pedals. If I ever run into anything that I can't handle I take it up to Terry at Guitars n Stuff. He sure can work some magic on guitars! Especially one's with Floyd's. Building a low wattage tube amp sounds like it would be a really cool project. Look around on ebay to find parts. There's always somebody out there that got the stuff, and either doesn't have the time, money , or patience to finish the project and dumps the parts just to try to get some of their money back. Always search in the newly listed items. Because the good deals never last to the end of the auction.
Does "Back In the Day" count?
Back in 2000 I wired this:
http://www.recordplant.com/ssl3.html
It's a 5.1 room.
And this:
http://www.recordplant.com/ssl2.html
I was a tech/engineer @ Record Plant and did tons of repair and maintenance work, too.
Then I went to Track Record and built this:

back in the day...

i was thinkin of buyin a kit, i really don't know what i'd need to part one out. i should do some research and see what kinda parts i'd need. i know with the pedal kits they sell, that you can buy everything for those for way less than they sell the kits. maybe thats the same case with the tube amp kits. hmm.Geetarzz wrote: Building a low wattage tube amp sounds like it would be a really cool project.
