Sad, that this is what it is. I hope that if one of our children (community) get shot and killed by someone defending himself that we are a little more sympathetic. There are metal songs (and videos) that feature all those crimes. You're not going to convince me that your fave style of music has never been involved with sex, drugs, and doing stupid stuff. I was there. I've seen mountains of cocaine, weed, crank, pills, crazy sexcapades, vandalism, etc., metal is far from angelic. No genre of music is completely innocent.
Also, based on my own experience and what I've observed, banning rap in your house, with a boy especially, pretty much guarantees he'll want to listen to it. I wasn't allowed to listen to Kiss, my parents were VERY strict about that stuff... and I made my decision to be a musician at age 14 while listening to "Hard Luck Woman" on a small tube radio with the speaker against my ear. You have every right to censor what your boy listens to, but you & I have stubbornness in common, and I bet he will, too.

Zimmerman has a history of calling 911 for things he sees as crimes, like black people being on white people's property, open garage doors, etc., and called 911 roughly once a week. This establishes a pattern of behavior towards blacks. The 911 tape CLEARLY contains a racial slur (it's bleeped out on Fox News), establishing a mindset at the time of the crime. The police video does not corroborate his story that he was viciously beaten and injured, so self-defense should be questioned as a motive, especially when factored in with the previous points. Zimmerman was carrying a gun, as a neighborhood watchman, which is AGAINST police advice. This may be illegal in and of itself, regardless of CCW permits, and he should be charged.
The bottom line is that an unarmed black kid was shot. He had committed no crime, yet he was followed and reported before being shot to death. If you followed ME around like that, or if I followed YOU and harrassed you, somebody would be pissed enough for fisticuffs. Zimmerman followed Martin, we know that. The difference was that Zimmerman is a chicken-shit, and had to pull his gun.

My son will be 5 in april. Rap will be long gone by the time he is a teenager. I was just using that as an example.
I havent made my opinion on the case based on music. I was just pointing out that ALOT of people act out the lifestyle they hear about in a billion songs.

We have different personalities, I dont have a need to be on a stage and have people looking at what I can do. Im perfectly fine doing what I do behind closed doors. Its my CHOICE. If I WANTED to be on stage every night, I could. Anyone could.

Thanks, Junior. First, I'm really happy that you acknowledge my status as a local rock star, it really helps to know that someone of your obvious stature and critical acclaim is paying attention.
Now, let's revisit where we were in this debate: You were blaming rap music for the lifestyle that led to an unarmed young man being shot. That young man was not committing any crime, other than being at the wrong store in a mostly-white community. The police have not set any charges against the man who shot him, a part-time security-guard , because of a law that does not apply, The Stand Your Ground Law, which was written verbatim by the NRA and a group called ALEC, a lobbying firm for the NRA.
This law was designed to sell products, specifically handguns and ammo, which are extraordinarily profitable, and the jist of it is if certain people understand that they can legally kill, gun and ammo sales will increase. Personally, they don't care if the bad guy shoots you, or you shoot the bad guy, as long as you both paid for your weapons.

That said, when it's all cooked down, this is a bluegrass guy arguing the validity of rap music to a metal guy who has it all figured out anyway, and because it's silly as hell, I'm Audi-5000, yo. Payce, bitches.

The neighborhood is reported to be 47% white. It would seem to me that the 53% non-whites make up the majority. Keep trying, one day you might accidentally get something right.

More witnesses have been identified who saw Zimmerman with bandages on his head and nose after the incident. Look it up.

If he was attacked as is his story, and these witnesses seem to add evidence to that, the Stand Your Ground law seems very appropriate.

I bet local gun store owners would like to see evidence of this "extraordinary" profit margin.

"NBC told this blog today that it would investigate its handling of a piece on the “Today” show that ham-handedly abridged the conversation between George Zimmerman and a dispatcher in the moments before the death of Trayvon Martin. A statement from NBC:

“We have launched an internal investigation into the editorial process surrounding this particular story.”

Great news right there. As exposed by Fox News and media watchdog site NewsBusters, the “Today” segment took this approach to a key part of the dispatcher call:

Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.

Here’s how the actual conversation went down:

Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.

Dispatcher: OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic?

Zimmerman: He looks black.

The difference between what “Today” put on its air and the actual tape? Complete: In the “Today” version, Zimmerman volunteered that this person “looks black,” a sequence of events that would more readily paint Zimmerman as a racial profiler. In reality’s version, Zimmerman simply answered a question about the race of the person whom he was reporting to the police. Nothing prejudicial at all in responding to such an inquiry. "
