1000 songs is an awesome milestone to reach. to be able to remember a song on that list and whip it out on the spot AND play it with someone who may or may not be able to sing and keep time AND not let that screw you up is unreal. IMO that takes alot, you really gotta be on your game.
every band needs to find they nich in life, their hook. thats what determines whether you play for a full house of people or a full house of empty tables and chairs. you can be the best musician in the world and if you don't have what the people want you will never make it.

To Chicksinga- Someone's pretty damn cocky. I understand that youve been to LA and blah blah. Now, you get awesome locals reviews and thats so wonderful. Im happy that youve reached legend status in your mind. Alot of people dont. Its rare.
About kband.. anyone that can play 1,000 songs is a better musician than I am and prob most people. You gotta be pretty good to do that.
So, they decided to let people (who, yes, prob suck) get up there and live out their dream of singing in a band. something regular people DONT have the talent or connections to do.
It makes them feel good for five friggin minutes. You apparently gotta be in the spotlight all the time, and youre ripping on someone who just wants 5 mins?!? Youre nuts.
btw, ive never sung with kband.
So then you say "well they dont sing as good as me, so they shouldnt be allowed".
Are you kidding me?? Im paraphrasing of course, but thats what youre also saying.
Let me tell you this, just because you may think you are awesome, not everyone may agree. That goes for everyone, all across the board. What ever happened to being humble?
You talk about putting "all this time" into your "art". What do most musicians spend their time doing at some point? Drinking, drugs, getting laid, sleeping late, being irresponsible..the list goes on. Yeah, that sounds so tough. doesnt it guys? dont we all have such a hard time with our art? Again, youve gotta be kidding me.
I doubt anyone is gonna put time into "meeting you onstage"...but I can most certainly say that ive met some people as a part of my job that would certainly school you. So, settle down over there.

Now hold on! Let's not turn this into another insult-fest; Rockpage has enough of that as it is.
I thought it was pretty obvious that a strong sense of humor is necessary for both the functioning and appreciation of a project like this. What we do is "Saturday Night Live", not "Lost".
In my original post, I welcomed criticism. I got it, and I'll take more, so long as it's articulate and thoughtful.
I appreciate the supportive comments, particularly bassist, sunset, and lonewolf. (Rik, I know you're behind us) The fact is, we've put in a tremendous amount of work into learning the material, honing the special skills needed to pull it off, as well as our custom, musician-controlled teleprompter system. IMO we've put in enough work to cover the 5 members, plus a few more...
But we're not about putting anyone down or showing anyone up. We just like to make music and don't really care about the particulars.
My advice: come to a show (hehe). Join us onstage* and see for yourself. We'll be @ Pelly's this Friday.
Consequently, if there's gonna be an on-stage showdown, I know a great back-up band
* We're also great for spectators. Lately, a LOT of great singers have been coming to our shows. Musicians from other bands, and we're fairly popular with the theater crowd. Ya' know, people who have studied and practiced and such.

I never said I was awesome, nor any of the things you so call "para-phrase",
your text says nothing that mine does. I have the opinion that if your gonna be a band - BE A BAND. So name call all you want. If people don't have talent there's a place in the audience. A person unqualified to be an engineer surely won't be designing bridges anytime soon.
Are you a musician? Have you paid any dues at all? I'm just trying to get a fix on why you think you're so qualified to not only completely misquote me but also disparage other musicians by saying idiotic things like:
"What do most musicians spend their time doing at some point? Drinking, drugs, getting laid, sleeping late, being irresponsible..the list goes on."
Really?
You sound like a petty, JEALOUS child.
I figured youd dance around what I said.

Jealous child? Dont think so,babe. Unless you count the fact that im prob 20 yrs younger than you. I guess that makes me a child or it just makes you old.

Are are you saying you dont/didnt do those things that I said most musicians do??? mhmm. haha.

No I deleted my posts out of respect of Kband. I changed my
my opinion, knowing as I said before that there is a place for us
all. I stupidly let you goad me into giving you creedence.
I did research into who you are. I know that you used to
berate people on this site under another name. Many people,
real musicians, told me to ignore you, that you weren't worth
my time. They are so right.

Yep, youre right, I used to freely speak my mind when i used the name Spellboundbymetal. I havent freely spoke my mind in so long. Trust me.
I didnt get you into anything, I responded to YOUR words.
Im glad you researched me, thats awesome. That made my ego's day.
thanks. Again, Im not gonna freely speak my mind on this topic.
Youre friends were right, Im not worth your time. Im not worth anyone's time who is an egomaniac and thinks they are better than others. Thats a reason why my friend list isnt large. I speak my mind to my friends. yeah, it might piss them off for a few days, but we are right back to being buds. Thats me, and they know & accept that I speak my mind and fight for what I believe. I am not a friend of mega sensitive people.
I dont hide what I think when asked about a subject. My problem before was, I volunteered how I felt about things or even just pushed the envelope for a reaction. Yeah, kind of dumb..especially for someone new to the area. That was when I FIRST moved here back in 2005. When I was 24. You remember what it was like being 24 dont you!!? It wasnt THAT long ago. I grew up since then. Its happens I guess.
Im sorry you think im such a horrible person because I called you out on things you said. You'll get over it....or maybe not. who knows.
FYI, I heard about how you were YEARS ago, and I never held that against you. We've even agreed on things. I guess im not the kind of person that holds things against people.
I do applaud your effort to shift focus onto me though. Another politician move. Since youve hidden what youve said, it helps add to the "I didnt do anything" claim. NOW you say you respect the band...but the content of the deleted posts told a different story. Alot remember them.
Its over, im done with this stupid situation. Theres nothing else to say, but I wont delete what ive said and NEVER have.
For the record, I knew what possible shitstorm I mightve gotten into because this person "has alot of friends"...but I also know that MOST musicians are not like this person and agree that you have to keep grounded. No one was willing to call the person out on it. I was. Why do you think I use my REAL NAME as my user name? I want people to know that I said what I said, whatever it may be. The internet just makes it too easy for people to avoid and erase what they say.

Did you seriously expect it to go any other way? HA HA HA It's f-in Rockpage man. Now back to the actual thread. 1k CONGRATS!!!! Not an easy feat by any stretch of the imagination.Jasaoke wrote:kBand is not affiliated with any bickering, cat fighting, name-calling, character assasinating, one-upping, trolling, jawing, or any other internet nonsensing.
I'm sorry that this thread has gone so horribly awry.
Let's just let it go, please.

We're going to have the audience vote. We've actually learned quite a few more, but we're going to let the crowd pick #1000. There will be a ballot box @ our show March 24th, and we'll tally the votes during a set break. Corny and meaningless, I know. But we're hoping that one or more of our guests will sign up to sing the 'winner', regardless of what it is, so that should be both fun and dangerous.
Some of the finalists are:
Bohemian Rhapsody
Tom Sawyer
One (Metallica)
Fame
Welcome to the Jungle
Ready to Take a Chance Again (Manilow)
and some Lady Gaga has been heavily requested lately
Maybe even Russian Unicorn
It's kinda funny; we're making people vote on #1000, but all the ones before & after are free...

Verbal wrasslin' feud notwithstanding, good thread.
I'll openly admit that I'm not a karaoke fan. But I think kBand fills a unique niche with what they do, and I respect the skills it takes to master that many songs and be able to perform them on the fly, adjusting and reacting as karaoke singers improvise or stumble along the way.
I've also noted that during the times I've seen kBand so far, they seem to draw a higher level of karaoke singer. There will be a few nonsense karaoke singers and drunks to be sure, but I've witnessed some talented voices get up to sing with kBand as well. And some of these folks displayed enough talent that they could cut it as a professional singer or lead singer if they pursue it further. So kBand might provide the gateway for new talent to enter the music/arts scene.
And in general, another reason I like kBand is that what they do can provide another gateway into live music in general for people who might not be otherwise inclined to come see a live band or music show. I would think that at least a few people who discover the fun of live music through kBand might then be more likely to come experience other live bands and performers as well. What kBand does can open doors for new fans to enter and discover the music scene. Given how tough it has been to lure people out to see live music, the more gateways that can invite people to come out and support it, the better.

Thanks!
The fact is, none of the members are karaoke fans; that was not the impetus for the project. In fact, I think I may be the only member of the group to ever sing karaoke *.
The high-caliber singers and musically inclined folks have been our target audience from the beginning. It's regrettably predictable that Drunk Guy or Girl will put in an appearance @ nearly every gig, and we have to be prepared for that, but lately we've seen some VERY impressive vocalists.
* Our drummer, Tim, was not in the group for the first few shows. He was @ our very first show and sang with us, via the "Karaoke Wheel of Death". OK, there's no actual wheel, but he signed up to sing a song picked at random from the database, about 250 songs at the time. The Random Song function is still intact, but it becomes more and more of a frightening prospect as the song list grows.
