VOX CRY BABY WAH PEDAL - MADE IN ITALY - LATE 60s

Post by lonewolf »

The holy grail of vintage wahs. This has the much sought after Stack of dimes inductor.

I modded this for true bypass and made subtle mods to the circuit. Unlike most wah mods, i used polystyrene capacitors which is what the originals are. It also comes with the original parts.

When stock, these lose a little gain when turned on and also don't do as well with the low E on guitar--the quality wah sound stops at F#. I extended the range down to drop D and made it so there is unity gain with no drop off in signal. There is no change with the rest of the note range. This is what they probably would have done in the 1st place had the necessary capacitor values been available in polystyrene. I had to piggy back them to get the right values.

It now passes my Electric Funeral test and still does all those vintage sounds they are known for.

$200 Firm.

No, the V846 is a later, but overlapping model number they sold in Europe. They changed to a tin can Japanese inductor for that model and the V846 is not considered as good as the original Cry Baby.

This is the original Cry Baby, model number 95-910511

I'd estimate its about a 1968 model.

Here is a little info on it:
