Is that Darius Rucker in the Burger King commercials

Post by bassist_25 »

I know that there's only been like 11 people who cared about Hootie after Cracked Rear View, but what the hell is he doing dressing up in a purple cowboy suit and singing Burger King jingles? Anyways, it looks like him - don't know if it is for sure.

I caught that too, Paul.
If it isn't Hootie, then he must have an identical twin.

On the plus side - that's probaly the clearest I've ever heard him sing. He use to mumble his way through every Blowfish tune. I had an easier time understanding Kurt Cobain than him.

I caught that too, I can't even imagine how much you'd have to pay me to do that................ I don't know if money would even get me to do that, You'd probably have to threaten me with the life of my wife or kid or something. I think I'd rather die myself first actually............ That commercial is pretty lame.

I'd do it. I wouldn't sell them a deep love song I wrote for my wife to sell burgers, but I'd sing a ditty in a cowboy suit for a few hundred grand. I barely noticed him... there's tightly-dressed honeys on that commercial!---->JMS

Not only is that Darius. Brooke Burke is the woman on the swing at the end...remember her from "Wild On" on the E! channel. From what I hear, commercials are the new way to get rich quick. A lot of actors are doing foreign commercials cause it's easy, fast cash...millions! Actors are scared to do American commercials, because Americans make fun of them and then the actor's career starts to fall apart. If I could get a million to strum a guitar and talk about the bacon ranch cheeseburger...sign me up!

I HIGHLY doubt that it was millions.
He would be lucky if it were a hundred grand.

Artie Lange from the Howard Stern show auditioned to do a 3-5 word voice over as a Pepsi can for a commercial...his pay would have been $50,000 if he got the part. That was just for voice over work. Darius is singing a whole song and playing guitar and dressed like a flaming cowboy. I bet he got some nice cash for that gig. Plus commercials usually take a day or two worth of work. Taking crap vs. a decent bank account - I still want signed up!

Damn straight! I'm sure whatever he got paid, he laughed his way to the bank. maybe not as hard as I laughed when I first saw it, which was while I was playing a hotel gig, on a big screen, just to my left. right in the middle of the song I was playing I burst into laughter. The 4 people that I was playing for had a similar response when they saw what I was laughing at.
Of course my pockets are still not as full as his..........................

Money talks! I would have done the spot too. I am sure Darius Rucker (who has been in the where are they now category) probably got a laugh, had fun, and got paid all at once. What a great gig!

Are we not all as musicians just musical prostitutes anyway? Play anywhere for anybody any kind of music as long as we get paid. Gotta pay the bills!

We should not take ourselves too seriously. I was in a band in the early 1980's that made a living out of putting on a comedy show with crazy hats and outfits to get a laugh while we were playing the most rockin' music out there. We were so unique that people came to see what we would do next. Even the guys in band did not know what would happen next. We would laugh at ourselves. It was some of the most fun I have ever had playing in a band.

By the way, Darius is not Hootie. Nobody in the Blowfish is actually named Hootie. Hootie was a friend of the band.

The Burger King commercial with Darius Rucker definitely achieved its goal regarding the first rule of marketing and advertising.

IT CREATED AWARENESS, GOT OUR ATTENTION, AND WE ARE ALL TALKING ABOUT!

Humor sells.

He'll always be Hootie to me, moxham, and I'd bet that it really pisses him off to be called that.

Ron,

Point well taken. I would not care if anybody called me Hootie or anything else if I was making millions of dollars making music.

Rock on,

Did you all see that there are now 2 different Burger King commercials featuring Darius Rucker of Hootie and the Blowfish?

I happened to see both of them yesterday.

What a "Hoot"!

I only saw one so far. I can't wait to see the next one.
If I got to be in a commercial with Brooke Burke I would dress up as a flaming cowboy as well and sing an even dumber jingle.
Hey that brings to mind a new topic.
I did a jingle for the radio when I lived in Chicago. Actually it was for Scottie Pippen's Dodge(Chicago Bulls). All I had to do was play cheesy 80's metal riffs to an AC/DC drumbeat while the announcer talked about the month's deals. $1500 for a hour's work(if you want to call it work) Now that's not bad.
Anyone else ever do any jingles?
