Does anyone like to do just improv
Like it sez
I'm not sure I understand the question. I've encountered guys who want to "freak jam", which is just having each member of the band play whatever they feel like, and hope it comes together, and those situations almost never work out.
However, if what you mean is that the band merely works within a rough framework (here are the chords, here's the tempo) then, YES, most certainly. In fact, I don't want to be involved with music that doesn't use improvisation to some extent (the band I'm currently in is entirely built on this premise).
Oh boy, I'm opening the can of worms:
I think that many musicians and fans have hang-ups with 'cover tunes' because of a lack of improvisation. I don't think anybody wants to hear the same thing over and over again; we've got youtube for that. The fun and energy of live music comes from not knowing what's next.
