Converting FB pictures?

Post by Jim Price »

Does anyone know how to convert Facebook photos to jpeg images? My photo processing software (PhotoSuite) doesn't read Facebook images (it shows the thumbnails of photos I download, but says they aren't valid image files). Is there online software that can enable me to do the conversion?

All ya gotta do is right-click on the photo, click "copy image" and then go to your photo program and click "paste as new image". Then you can do whatever you like with it.

That worked in a roundabout way. PhotoSuite would show an error message and close whenever I tried to directly paste the copied image. However, I used "capture" to open the Facebook page with the full photo, and then used my "trim" function to crop the rest of the page out of the picture, and saved the image as a jpeg that way. Thanks!

I hope you didn't pay for that program.

Here is a really good, super-lightweight shareware photo program:

http://www.photofiltre.com/

Give it a try.

I don't have the latest version, so if it deactivates after 30 days, let me know and I'll email you a version that won't.

I'll try it, thanks!

PhotoSuite actually came with one of my digital cameras. It's been pretty useful and reliable, but it came about before Facebook became big, so its technology might be slightly outdated for the Facebook age.

When I right click a photo in FB and click "save picture as" it seems to convert it to jpeg. I just checked the properties and they are all saved as jpeg.

Windows 7 also has a built in screen capture tool. It's called "snipping tool" and I always find it by using the search function in the start menu. It works extremely well.

And as Tony said, you can also right click and "save image as" and give it a name that you'll recognize rather than the file name that FB gives it. Put it in the folder of your desire and there you go!

I've also found that if someone has "tagged" a person in the image, it doesn't want to show "save picture as" when you right-click. Just roll your cursor over a different part of the image, and it'll work. It'll ask what folder you want to send the pic to, and on that window, you can specify type of image-file.

Another way to do it, if the image is already a JPG, is to use Firefox. Right click on the page, click View Page Info.

Then click "Media" tab up top, find your image in the box, then click "Save as" below it. Rename it and save!
