I watched this whole episode unfold on Monday. A hoax news report surfaced through Twitter stating that Bon Jovi had been found dead in a room at his Empress Hotel. A number of people fell for it initially, and at least one television station reported it as true. None of the major news websites were reporting it, and then a few websites started to report that his death report was a hoax. Then shortly after 6, Bon Jovi and his publicist released that photo to reassure everyone that the report was indeed not true.
I'm saving the report and the picture to show to my news writing students next semester, as a reminder that information found online can't always be trusted, and to verify your facts against other sources before reporting them.
I heard a report this week that the band Bon Jovi was considering retirement as a group but these two articles refute that statement and they are just taking a break. Really goes to show how thinsg do get blown out of proportion and twisted with the media today.
