A good migraine remedie?

Post by f.sciarrillo »

Those of you who are friends with me on facebook probably saw that I have had this terrific migraine for the past almost two weeks. I am wondering if any of you have any good remedies to get rid it? Or something that hels alleviate the pain? Anything that works for that matter.

I get migraines too. I don't drink coffee or alcoholic drinks but I have been told they can aggravate a migraine. What I find helps is sitting in a dark room since I get sensitivity to light. The nausea can be bad; so, don't over eat and stay away from greasy foods. I don't get the sound sensitvity. I don't like to take medicine but there are several migraine medicines on the market like Excedrin Migraine. However, I get migraines in differing degrees of severity and they can really knock me down. The worst time to get one is before or during a gig.

P.S. Stay off Rockpage :D Half the stuff on here can give you a headache.

A migraine lasting that long might be a cluster headache or something else. I hope you checked out a good neurologist.

Has the medicinal herb helped?

I'm gonna go with the most obvious sets of answers

There are tons of headache medicines on the market. While I'm not usually the kind to just promote throwing money random ways, I say give a few a shot. Borrow from a neighbor if they keep something for headaches in the house, or buy the small bottles of a few, and try. If it goes away, try again. If it goes away, try again. If it goes away, stick with it. If not, try something new. Best of luck with the migraines dude

Also, I dunno your relationship status, but sex is said to be a good cure-all for headaches. Granted, if you're nauseated by migraines, that's not the first idea to try, but then it's worth trying. Have fun! Heh

I am thinking that it is a cluster headache as well. I tried pretty much everything, as I was prescribed about five different things by my doctor. I also went to the Everything natural store in altoona here the other day and got some "Migraine Gone", it didn't do anything for me. I ended up in the ER on monday because of it. They gave me an iv cocktail of drugs to try and get rid of it. It seems to be a little better today, but it is not completely gone. I have never had one that lasted this long.

I was to a point where I was seeing waves and spots, and really nauseous. As well as the light sensitivity. I am trying to stay away from caffeine, and anything that can aggravate them. As well as eat nothing but crackers until it is completely gone.

I never heard of the sex curing all headaches, I will have to bring that up with the wife.

Best of luck, migraines suck soo baddddly....I usually take excedrin. I stay away from the alcohol, but i was told caffeine helps, thats the main ingredient in excedrine, it expands the blood vessels, but w/e. I've heard the sex remedy as well, but sometimes that doesnt work it just makes it worse :/. I was going to say I'd hope you have told your doc this is happening. Another option if you can afford it is a trip to the chiropractor. I went to one for my migraines about a year ago (before i lost insurance) and it seemed to help keep them away ::shrugs:: best of luck

Several months ago, I had a migraine that lasted for days and had the blurred and wavy vision and spots as well has the other symptoms as well as feeling like somebody was driving a spike above my right eye.

As far as the sex thing, it is usually the women who use a headache for not wanting sex. :D

Anyway, I found this website and possible remedies listed below. I hope something helps you.

No matter what part of the world you live in, you will undoubtedly run into someone you know who has had a migraine at some point in their lives. Migraines are a neurological syndrome characterized by severe headaches, nausea, vomiting and photophobia with varying intensities. Just over 1 billion people worldwide can attest to having a migraine at least once in their lives, and what is even more remarkable is that three quarter of the sufferers are female!

In many cases, a migraine headache is just pulsating pain that lasts anywhere from 1 hour all the way up to 72 hours or more for the most severe of cases. The notion of spending all this time in pain spurs most people into trying several different migraine headache remedies -- including prescription medications and all natural herbal treatments.

Most people will try pretty much anything at all in order to get rid of their migraine fast -- or at the very least, just to reduce the pain slightly. Unfortunately, many of these individuals have been unsuccessful in their attempts, as they just don't know which remedies to use nor how to use them properly. Thankfully though, there are indeed EFFECTIVE home remedies for migraine headaches which exist that have been clinically proven to aid in getting rid of migraines & severe headaches. Here are a few remedies you might want to try...

The Ice Wrap

One of the most popular home remedies for migraine headaches is the use of ice wraps. Many stores and pharmacies sell these inexpensive ice wraps, which are used around the head or on the neck in order to get rid of headaches quickly. It is usually very effective at soothing the body and improving blood flow, which helps to ease pain almost instantly.

Ice Towel

One of the easier home remedies for migraine headaches is the use of the frozen towel method. Basically, you would need to wet the towel and wring it out as the first step. Once that's done, you would place it in the freezer for around five minutes, take it out & re-fold it, then put it back in the freezer to ensure that all sections of the towel become SUPER cold. Once it has reached PEAK coldness, it'll be time to wrap the towel around the head or neck for as long as it takes for the pain to subside.

Deep Massages

When many people think about home remedies for migraine headaches, they initially think of deep, relaxing head massages. The kind that have been proven to give some measure of migraine headache relief. Such quick & easy to do treatments work best when done in a dark room where someone other than yourself is massaging the head and neck.

Food & Drink

Some people have attested to the positive effects of eating salty food as one of the fastest & best home remedies for migraine headaches. You could perhaps give it a try with things like chips or snacks which are particularly salty. Aside from that, people have have also experienced relief just by drinking large quantities of water, juices packed with vitamin C, and even by having a SMALL amount of caffeine. IMPORTANT NOTE: It should be remembered that caffeine will work AGAINST a person who experiences caffeine induced migraines/headaches, thereby making matters worse. In such cases, caffeine should probably be avoided.

Healthier Habits & Lifestyle

Of course, some of the best home remedies for migraine headaches include the obvious things like exercise, getting adequate sleep every night, and eating healthier. Some people have reported getting good headache relief once they start a regular exercise program as well as ensure their bodies get enough rest. Tied in with that, it's also a idea to switch out your regular diet -- which is likely made up of fast food, junk food, and sugary and/or processed foods -- with a more natural diet made up of fish, lean meats, nuts, fruits & vegetables, and anything else that is considered "good for you".

Try some of these excellent home remedies for migraine headaches if you're tired of dealing with constant, throbbing head pain that never seems to go away. After all, why should anyone have to live with constant headache pain when there are easy and super fast ways to avoid it?

Believe me, Jeff, I am about to amputate my head.

I used the head massage and ice pack, Duaine. An ice pack on my head and behind my head. My daughter was giving me head massages. It helps a little bit.

When I looked at the list of things that aggravate them, caffeine is on it. I didn't know it was in the migraine meds themselves. That is kinda redundant isn't it? Maybe it is just small doses of caffeine that help?

My wife did make an appt. with the chiropractor. They told her just from talking to her that I may have whiplash. I don't see how they would know that without seeing me. I have heard a couple of people say that they go one when they get a headache as well. It is worth looking into.
