HOMEGROWN ROCKER 10/30/11 (HALLOWEEN SPECIAL)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 30 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 9 to 11 PM during Steelers football season on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

This was the show’s annual Halloween Special (although we didn’t do one last year). Each band or song we played on this show was somehow tied to the theme of Halloween, either by band name, song title or other criteria. Along the way, we debuted new songs from The Arts, Roy Handy & the Moonshot and Dethlehem. We also updated “Local Music News,” and reviewed The Embalmed’s Make The Children Listen CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

EMILY’S TOYBOX – “Creeps”
INSIDE OUT – “Vampire Eyes”
JOHN CHARNEY WITH WHITE MOJO – “I Put a Spell on You”
ROADKILL – “Wiccan Blues”
THE ARTS – “Thirteen Ghosts”
IT IS WRITTEN – “Burn the Witch”
ROY HANDY & THE MOONSHOT – “I’m a Vampire”
E.V.K. – “Everybody Screams”
THE SUNFLOWER SPECTACLE – “I’m a Ghost…No, I’m a Monster”

HOUR TWO:

WHITE WITCH – “Slaughter in Salem”
ICARUS WITCH – “House of Usher”

THE EMBALMED – Devil Platinum”
COINMONSTER – “Watching the Insects”
SAUCEMONSTER – “Waiting on Life” (2002, Local Music Flashback)
WINE OF NAILS – “Full Moon Over the Graveyard”

The Steelers/Ravens NFL Sunday night game pre-empts the “Homegrown Rocker” on November 6. But when the show returns on November 13, our guest in the studio will be Chuck Mason, namesake, guitarist and singer for Chuck Mason & Blue Reality. We’ll learn about Chuck, his band and career to date, and hear songs from the group’s debut CD, You Know It’s Time, and you’ll have chances to call in to win a copy! Along the way, we will update “Local Music News,” dig into the archive for yet another “Local Music Flashback,” and review Southside Strays’ Out All Night CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” Chuck Mason & Blue Reality on the “Homegrown Rocker,” Sunday night, November 13 at 9 PM!

In Local Music News…

NailDriver is rocking to the beat of a different drummer, as Kevin Siegel has parted ways with the group, and Luke Weaver has replaced him behind the kit. Luke made his debut with NailDriver last Sunday at the Patched Together Benefit concert at 30 Something.

Clearfield roots rocking trio The Primer Greys have changed upright bass players. Ed McDonald recently left the group, and Ed’s former Rusty Gun Revival bandmate, Marc Prave, takes over on upright bass.

Guitarist Ryan Clark and bassist Quinton Flick have departed the band Hard Drive, and formed a new project called The Jam. Quinton’s brother, Wade Flick, plays drums, and guitarist Terry Welsh sings. The Jam plays hard classic and modern rock from names like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Billy Squier and more.

Two new duos are arriving on Altoona area stages. Ross Hoover and Reed Larrimore have formed the acoustic duo Wayward Sons. And Front bandmates Bob Gates on vocals and Harold Hayford on keys have formed the duo Artifact.

A benefit has been announced to remember an area musician who recently passed away, and raise money for a scholarship fund in his name. The Jody Sinclair Memorial Benefit show will take place on Saturday night, November 26, at The Arena in State College. The show will begin at 8 p.m., and feature performances from Held Down (featuring former members of E.S. Whitefisch), It Is Written, A Beautiful Mess and Jody’s first band, Blackseed. Donation at the door is $5, and proceeds will go to the Jody Sinclair Memorial Fund to start an annual scholarship in his name. Jody Sinclair was a Centre County guitarist who played for several area bands, including E.S. Whitefisch, Blackseed and others. He succumbed to an aggressive form of cancer in August at age 39.
