Foreign Exchange Bands
Been a very long time since I've posted, and my band LADY INVIDIA is looking to broaden our horizons. We're a well established, very popular, top drawing band here in the Cummberland, MD area. However, I am under the assumption you 'Toon town folk have no clue who we are.... and I aim to fix that. What I am proposing is: let's do two double shows. Not we come up and open for you for no pay, not you come open for us for no pay. Who the hell wants to drive an hour for nothing? What I have in mind is you set us up to do a show alongside your band at a happening club up there, and we'll do the same down here. I am the lead guitarist and soundman for our band, so shelling out cash for production is not an issue. We are a 5 piece, so im thinking at the end of the night, pay will just be split 9 or 10 ways, however many band members there are total. We've done this type of arrangement with a few other bands here, and it has always worked out quite well. Also, I suggest band A plays first and third sets, band B plays second and fourth sets, as opposed to one opening the show and the othere finishing it without the drunken exposure throughout the whole night. Check us out at www.ladyinvidia.com, also search us on youtube. I can be reached at stratobastard27@yahoo.com, or PM me for my number. I hope that this idea intrigues a few of you, and look forward to hearing from someone!
"well, why don't you make ten louder and just have that be the loudest one?"
".....but these go to eleven!"

sounds like a good "thinking outside the box idea"
my band (redjack) hasn't yet broken into the altoona scene as we just got together this january, and i'm not sure you're really gonna find super happenin' clubs there. i hear a few places get decent crowds and we are starting to work those club owners.
2 of our guys live in everett, just a stones throw from you, i'm sure we'd like to play around cumberland but at this time we don't play any appropriate venue to reciprocate your 2 band idea.
best of luck!

In this same vein, is the lack of Johnstown bands that make to over the mountain to Blair County and Altoona. Very rare is it to see a Johnstown based band in Altoona. And I don't think very many Altoona bands get gigs in Johnstown. These two cities are only 40 minutes apart.
Why is this so? Is it a rivalry?

In my experience, you have to pay a fair amount of dues in Altoona. It's a town that makes you work for your crowd. Honestly, it takes a couple of years to build a following in that town.Possessed wrote:I have rarely seen a J-town band do well in Altoona.
I played to crickets several times in Altoona. then the next nite in J-town to a packed house.
I just thought since nobody knows the band no one shows up.
I have seen some Altoona bands play J-town to crappy crowds.
don't know what it is.
"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.
I understand. It's tough to get a following in a different town.
Not many people from J-town goes to see bands in Altoona and vice versa. So bringing your crowd can be tough.
This idea has merit although it may take a few shows in both towns to make it worthwhile. One show in either town isn't enough.
