More than 900 people have signed a petition to make it happen....Well, I bet a lot more people would sign a petition to have it not happen. That's just fucked up.

It doesn't mean anything. That is just a group trying to make a name for themselves. Besides, they would need a couple million signatures to make the producers even start to think about it.

What are you talking about, Mitch?! Right now, there's a petition to bring back B.J. and the Bear to television. Obviously, these B.J. and the Bear fans just want special treatment and special rights that we non-B.J. and the Bear watching folks won't have. I say we rally the fundamentalist religious wing of this country and talk about how these people with appreciation of Greg Evigan's superb acting chops are ruining the moral fabric of our society!

Bloodsong hits my thinking pretty well. What does anyone care? Are we gonna go nuts over a couple of puppets just cos they want to feel each others'?

If a couple wants to get married, because they feel that strongly for each other, and it's within their legal rights (they're of age, they're both not currently married, etc.), let em be happy together. Our country may be based on a Christian mentality, but our country has constitutional amendments that stand stronger than that (The right to pursue happiness). The only persons who should have a say as to whether or not a couple gets married if they're that happy is the couple themselves

(Seeing as "marriage", in the terminological ideal, is a Christian idea, I do realize half of this argument defeats itself. However, the term "marriage" is in place where any such legal binding, from any other faith, religion, or thought of mind, would so be named)

All of that said,... Yeah, they're gay puppets. So what?

When has any kind of marriage been pushed on young children at any level? Why do gays feel the need to jam the stuff down our throats at every chance? Especially at developing young children that really have no idea about sexuality....Why is sexual preference a huge deal anyway? If you are gay or straight, who cares? I really don't need it force-fed to me that someone likes to fuck dudes, or vice versa....Do what you do, keep me and my kids out of it.

I swear when I was a kid I never got the gay vibe from those two...but now that I'm an adult its glaringly obvious and has destroyed part of my childhood. It's not that I'm against gay rights in any form, I just can't deal with two of my treasured childhood TV companions having buttsex. AHHHH...mind bleach!!!
BUT, that unpleasantness out of the way, I think its a good idea for a kids show to have positive gay characters in it, but I don't see the need for having such a serious thing as a gay marriage ceremony...somehow I doubt that the kids watching will really care. This seems like something to cater to the parents.

Really, when it comes down to it, I don't think that sexuality and marriage are things that Sesame Street should tackle.

Probably not. Doesn't mean they're not going to underscore a lot that only adults will get either though

Rob, chill out my friend. This is a small petition that has been signed by a very small number of people. No need to start gnashing at the teeth. I know this is Rockpage, where everyone loves to get indignant over absolutely nothing, but I don't think Sesame Street is going to change.

Well Sue, this is probably not a good time to tell you that many of the characters in Scoobie Doo were probably involved in the smoking of the jazz cigarettes.

The militant wing of the Rainbow group is going to have this stuff backfire on them. Most adults don't care what you do. But why do you have to push this on the kids. They don't know about straight sex, gay sex is un-comprehensible at that age.

The extreme gay and lesbians who push this stuff actually have more people go against them than who agree. The hurt their own cause.
