Acoustic Guitar Help

So i'm in the market for a new acoustic. main reason - i'm playin in a group now that is all acoustic but i'm playing a lot of lead. my current acoustic is a lil difficult to play leads past the 14th fret or so.

i need something thats more lead guitar player friendly and i'd prefer a slimmer body style. of course it needs to sound good.

i looked at the stratocoustic - i havent played it. its kinda cheap and i'm afraid if i get that, i will get what i paid for. a cheap sound.

See if you can find an old Fender Montara for under $200. Strat neck with a cutaway. has active electronics.

thats almost the same as what i have. its the thumb posiitioning after the 12th fret - i guess not bein able to wrap my hands around the neck that far is what i dont like.

thats what is appealing about the stratocoustic. i think i will go try some guitars out tonight and see what i find.

Having a thin bodied acoustic and it sounding good is kinda a contradiction. If you like your current acoustic, I would recommend having someone give it a good setup. That could make a world of difference.

just stay below the 12th fret.

On my Montara, i can comfortably position my hand on the 14th fret (index finger) and still keep my thumb behind the neck.

Hi Kayla,

Your best bet is a Taylor or an Ovation. Their necks play just like electrics. Pricewise, USA Ovations are much cheaper and are comparable soundwise (IMHO) with deeper lows. Though, I do prefer my Taylor.

In all seriousness, you really need to check either of these two brands of acoustics out. Soundwise, (I own an Ovation and a Taylor) they are both outstanding guitars. Both have small, electric style necks. You could play leads all day on either and have very little finger fatigue.
