Darwin Bistline R.I.P.

Post by Jim Price »

Darwin Bistline, longtime band director at Altoona Area High School, died on Saturday in North Carolina after a lengthy illness.

He was known as a disciplinarian who ran a tight ship when he directed Altoona's band. My brother told me numerous stories about being in the band under Bistline, and the successes the band enjoyed under his tenure.

Sorry to hear that. He was a good man and a good music director.

I'm very proud to say I was in the Award Winning Altoona Area Sr High School Marching Band and Majorettes under Mr Bistline. RIP

Darwin was my great uncle. I have to think the little musical talent that I have was derived somewhere in the bloodline. He had been in bad shape for sometime now, so this really was a blessing in disguise. I truely hope that he is now enjoying music again.
Videos destroyed the vitality of rock and roll. Before that, music said, "Listen to me." Now it says, "Look at me."

I noticed this at the end of Darwin Bistline's obituary on the Altoona Mirror website, and thought it was well worth sharing on here:
Above all, the greatest honor you can give to his memory is to forever keep music alive in Altoona with spirit, tradition and pride.
