Super Bowl Thoughts, Anyone?

Post by ToonaRockGuy »

Any comments on SB XXXIX? I could not believe the Eagles' complete lack of time management skills with 3 minutes to go in the game. Oh, and I forgot, Freddie Mitchell...way to talk trash and show up, dude!! 1 f*ckin' catch in the game. Unbelievable.

And on the lighter side, I thought that Paul McCartney's show was good, thank God there was no "wardrobe malfunction" during Charlie Daniels' show in the pregame.

Fave commercials? I got a hoot out of the first Bud Light commercial during the pregame, with the skydivers. That was frickin' funny! And the Ford Mustang commercial with the frozen driver was good too. Overall, though, I thought the commercial crop this year was really bad. Not funny, with very few exceptions.

Philadephia could have won but, basically beat themselves in the end with 2 ints and bad time management in the 4th quarter. Also, Donovan McNabb made some bone headed plays. He played well overrall but in the end, made some real brain farts.

The Pats played like they always do. Played smart and capitalized on the other's mistakes.

I agree with the first two posts. Although I still don't like his showboating, I give credit to T.O. for not just showing up on the field, but making plays and actually being a factor in the game despite his injury.

Philly's time management skills at the end were lousy, not to mention the play selection in that last series.

I agree with ToonaRockGuy, the commercial crop this year was a yawner. Faves were the Bud Light skydiving commercial, the Ford Mustang frozen driver commercial, and the two Ameriquest commercials (the first with the guy getting pepper sprayed and hit with a baseball bat for saying "you're getting robbed" to his friend on a cell phone at a convenience store, and the second with the kitchen debacle that leads to the guy holding a cat covered with spaghetti sauce and a knife when his lady walks in. Otherwise, the commercials were pretty boring this year.

Last night was proof that football is a team sport. The Pats played together as a team and whooped the flashy, cocky, strutting group of individuals. Props to Terrell Owens for WANTING to play and help his team but minus for not using his head and realizing that he was injured and therefore a liability.

Only goes to show that you don't need superstars and big egos only good team mates to win.

The Ameriquest Kitty and spaghetti sauce spot had me spitting out my bevarage with laughter. 2nd place to the Bud Parchute spot.

SideStep rehearsed until halftime. I switched on right before Sir Paul... a mixture of lip-sych and live, but given the technical snafu's at the Orange Bowl (Ashlee Simpson), I'd have wanted some insurance, too. At least we know he CAN sing and play.
I don't know much about being QB, but the time management at the end was SO bad. I think they could have driven for another score there, the Pats were on autopilot. It would have been a Superbowl for the ages, but noooo.

It was a good game. Good one on the Pats for winning. The comercials were a bore, the skydiving one was the best. I like the Desiganted driver in the night club, who unknownly started a chain dance, and the P-ditty pepsi truck (Although I can't stand P-diddy, or whatever his name is this week).

The half time show was great. Sir Paul is the biggest named star they ever had play there. Of course he had to do his anthem "Hey Jude". I loved it ... Great game, I am glad the beagles lost .. :)

 I thought it was kinda boring (very much so in the 1st half) . The commercials were not what I was hoping. Some were good but, for the most part they sucked (I really hate the 1's that were on 5 or 6 times). And the half time show sucked, The show before the game seemed more like half time show.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but the most memorable part of this year's Superbowl had to be the halftime show. Sir Paul was right on the money, and the fireworks timing in "Live and Let Die" was awesome. I guess the promoters had to make amends for last year's fiasco, and they certainly did so in style.

The best commercial hands down was the "Wardrobe Malfunction" spot that Budweiser cut from the show.
You can see it here. (caution: this clip is pretty large - 2.6MB)
... and then the wheel fell off.

Vin,

I despise TO more than anyone on here but, I think you are letting your hatred of him cloud your vision of reality. How do you consider him a liability with 9 catches and 122 yards? He was the only Eagles receiver to show up with his A game. And there were a couple times where McNabb missed him wide open for an almost guaranteed score. I hate the man too but, he was no liability. He was the Eagles best asset, only matched by Brain Westbrook.

Did anyone see the Ben and Montana commercial, with them singing ?? That was great .. Also they mentioned that Brady had the most consecutive games won by a rookie, with a total of 8. Nice to see they totally over looked the 15 straight wins in the NFL, and 13 straight wins in college, making a total of 28 straight wins the Big Ben had .. What a bunch of wankers ...

I do have to say that of the parts we did watch, the "You're getting robbed" was the funniest. Most of them were stupid. I was rather disappointed with the car commercials. They were more stupid than normal.

As for the "clothing malfunctions" worry... I heard that they were just going to show up and play nekkid. So no worries about malfunctions.

I totally agree that the time management by the Eagles was pretty pathetic! I mean c'mon, this is The Superbowl! They had a chance though, it really boiled down to some bad decision making by Mcnabb, and the time management, their defence was pretty solid! I cant stand the Patriots but they continue to prove time and again just how great of a TEAM they are! 3 Superbowls in 4 years...I really hope now they can let someone else have a chance for a change. I liked the commercial with the chimps and the whoopi cusion!

Definitely liked the chimps! There's just something funny about monkeys, ya know?

Decent game. The Patriots continue to do what they do best, which is to screw up less than everybody else. We'll see what Belichick is made of next year when the studs of his coaching staff go bye-byes.

Very good halftime show! Light on spectacle, and big on music. Sir Paul may not be "cool", but you can always count on him to be classy and positive. And he's not a bad songwriter, either.

By the time I had my 13th jello shot (1 for each beer), my sights were turned to SUPER BOWL XL

however...

That was far and away the best halftime show I can remember...and the game was better than I thought it would be. Who'd a thunk they'd be tied at the end of the 3rd quarter?
