Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the July 10 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).
Thanks to our guest via phone this week, Kyle Weber of Philadelphia indie rockers Zelazowa (www.zelazowa.com). Kyle updated us on the latest Zelazowa happenings, and offered insight on the group’s new CD, Love Is Lunacy, as we featured tunes from the album. We also discussed Zelazowa’s indie band resource website, www.indieonthemove.com. Along the way, we debuted new songs from Revenge Memorial, Higher Fives and Jakesway. We dug a 1998 song by Harrisburg’s Scapegoat from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed HotWing Jones’ Tanker A & Other Short Stories CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Mysterytrain introduced a new bass player during their performance at Saturday night’s Jester Fest for Rex music festival at the PPG Pavilion in Tipton. Shawn Howard takes over bass duties, replacing Kevin Share. The group also welcomed back keyboard player Gina Riggio, who was on the disabled list recently after undergoing a medical procedure. Proceeds from Mysterytrain’s Jester Fest benefited the Rex Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization started by members of the Grateful Dead to help fund social, cultural and educational programs nationwide.
Guitarist Eric Smith is parting ways with the band Ganister. Eric is stepping away from live playing to spend more time with his family. Ganister will continue as a four-piece band for the time being.
Three well-known names from the Altoona punk and metal scenes have formed a new trio. Punching Henry features Chapter 5, Dick Shack Posse and Railroad City Murder Machines bassist and singer Tim Mort, Dick Shack Posse guitarist Jeff Reid, and former Giornesto and Chilling Vision drummer Shawn Gioiosa. Punching Henry will play their official debut August 12 at Aldo’s.
Clearfield County singer and songwriter Paul Shimmel has just released a new CD. He celebrated the release with a CD-release party Saturday night at Over The Mountain in Rockton.
