2,500 Attend Wing Offs!
According to the Altoona Mirror (Tuesday July 5th) the Wing Offs average attendance is about 2,500 per week. I must have never been there on a good night! I would go with 2,500 for the entire event but for the week? Am I missing the good nights? Anyone been there with 2,499 others and not invite me?
I have seen a lot of bands there but I am not sure that I have ever seen that many people!
Also curious about opinions on the $5 cover charge.. I am curious to know if Maybe UC Joe will be hitting the Water Slides after a few brewski's...
(Excuse the mental image)
Thoughts?

I rarely drink alcohol (hardly ever at all, never if I am driving) and never have been on a water slide.
I do not even want to go through those long wing lines, I get a sandwich or a hot dog. I go there to see the band I choose to go see.
If the $5.00 was for a good charity, I would not mind it. I predict the $5.00 charge will be rescinded before the summer is over.

sorry
Sorry Joe, did not meant to offend. That was a pale attempt at comedy.
Still no comments on the numbers?

I go there for the music and that makes it hard to judge the numbers. There are a whole lot of people who just go there to eat wings and never pay attention to the band, never leave those tables under the pavilions. It is fairly spread out, so very hard to estimate numbers.
Well, at $5 a pop, they will get a count, but it will be way down. The folks that will shell out the $5 will end up buying less wings and beer, so the charities lose.

you are soo right never understood why most don't pay any mind to the band. thats a clue to the state of the local music scene and why it's so flat..most have little appreciation for good music these days.undercoverjoe wrote:I go there for the music and that makes it hard to judge the numbers. We went to see the Canes' on Thurs. and there was a good many people there. I'm sure that well over 1500 people were there. The bummer is that they moved the picnic table away from the stage and now you have no place to sit and watch. Kinda draws the crowd away from the band but eventually people filtered around. One thing that was great was they had new sound production, at least for the Canes', and it sounded 10X better than before. As far as the $5 bucks, I have no problem paying to see great bands. It actually cost me $25 bucks for the kids that went but they rode the ride, so actually it was quite a bargain. It was also well worth hearing Felix with a new sound playing through some vintage amps.
