'Beat It'
Michael Jackson (1983)
How does the (soon-to-be) biggest pop star in history spice up his most rockin' song to date? Simple: Jackson calls Eddie Van Halen, then the biggest guitarist on Earth. But Eddie contributed only the solo; the song's distinctive riff was played by Toto guitarist and session musician Steve Lukather.
Really? I never knew that. I always thought the Eddie did both the riff and solo. That is interesting.

Neil Young is rightly heralded as a master of the guitar solo...
Shit, don't let Jeff read this!
"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.

The Guess Who riff from No Time or American Woman was missed, and Uncle Ted's Stranglehold riff or Cat Scratch Fever should have been on there.

Robin Trower's Bridge of Sighs should have been on there.

My favorites are Black Train and Rock Candy, both by Ronny Montrose

I'd also consider Rock Candy as honorable mention for the intro thread.

As with any list, it all depends on the favorites of those compiling the list.

A few songs that come to mind before some listed are:

American Woman - The Guess Who
No Time - The Guess Who
Takin' Care Of Business - Bachman-Turner Overdrive
Cat Scratch Fever - Ted Nugent
Barracuda - Heart
Hit Me With Your Best Shot - Pat Benatar
Gimme Three Steps - Lynyrd Skynyrd
La Grange - ZZ Top
Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley
Bad To The Bone - George Thorogood & The Destroyers
Slow Ride - Foghat
Roundabout - Yes
Carry On Wayward Son - Kansas

Whole Lotta Love---Led Zeppelin
And the beginning of Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street", but I'm not sure what instrument is being played---sax maybe? Does it count if it's not a guitar?
