Agreed.
One of the best live TV mixes I've heard was for Duran Duran a few years ago when they were on a special for VH1, plugging a new album they were putting out. It was a stellar mix...and a stellar band to boot. I always dug a lot of their tunes, but I never realized that those cats are all ace players until I saw that special.

I been noticing that a lot in the tv mixes, now that I been trying to listen more. Too bad they can't get it to work right.

Augmented your original post.Jasaoke wrote:I'm always thoroughly impressed with the mixing of awards-shows. I can't imagine the logistical nightmare of coordinating several dozen multi-channel acts in only a few hours. Not to mention monitors, stage setup and strike, and all of the lighting and giant prima-donna egos.

Speaking of...
I was watching the Capitol 4th of July celebration on PBS last night. Oh man what a nightmare audio wise. It started out OK with the soloists singing typical patriotic balads. At some point they brought out the case of that new rock musical that's about Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Johnny Cash. Wow bad. Bad playing, band sound, bad everything.
Then, Little Richard comes out with his Piano... major mix problems. However, I think in this case it was the live mix that was screwed up.

"What?"
