The Blues on PBS

Post by songsmith »

All this week on PBS (WPSX-TV Channel 3) at 9pm... I caught the first installment last night, directed by Martin Scorsese... absolutely brilliant. He had interviews from long ago from Son House, that alone was worth the wait.
All musicians should watch this series, you'll come away ready to create some new music, or at least dig deeper into what you're doing now.--->JMS

Ken Burns made another great documentary, this one is about Jazz. It is the usual Ken Burns superb quality film.

It is available on Netflix, both CD and instant play.

It's also at the Altoona Public Library on DVD.

I talked to a fellow from State College who has written several college level text books on jazz and jazz history. He and several of his friends thought it focused too much on the race issues that he considered irrelevant or even wrong because they were opinionated and not fact based.

I haven't seen it in a while, but I remember thinking it was really well done. Ken Burns style.
