What would you do ?

So lets say a new bar opens up, calls to book you........ fine right ? In the process they pester you to show up for an organized Jam night, you nicely say that schedules during the week are hectic and you can't guarantee any weeknights. Then you find out that your advertised to be at one of them !!!! and were never given a date !!!!! Its amazing the nerve some people have.

Just be honest. Call them up and let them know you won't be there, and thank them for advertising you without your permission!

That's a tricky one.

One thing I can suggest is whatever you do, do not burn a bridge. If it's worth your while, do the gig. Just make sure there's better communication so it doesn't happen again?

Good advice John but you're much more level headed than me !!!!

Seriously though before this happened I was getting a little on the "edge" with this guy, he really didn't want to hear anything I was saying and I was talking to my wife about it and used the burning bridge analogy I said " I hate to burn a bridge but if its one you're better off not crossing than ya might as well burn it "

We actually can't do it because our bass player has some commitments wich is what I was trying to tell this guy but since we're advertised I hate to not show............ just kinda a sucky situation.

Ok, then just be REAL honest and say

"hey dick brain, I am pissed! Now that you used my name I guess I'll have to come out and see how many people show up and put it into proportion with how many drinks you owe me"

I know, that was harsh, and I'm not like that, but it was fun to say.
That is a very shitty position that he put you in, though.

Something I noticed was you said it was a jam night, right? What about inviting another bassist to sit in that would know at least a set. You could do another part of the night acoustic if you had to with Stacey (I know you two used to do that together as well.) Something else to take into consideration is the resource of musicians here on Rockpage. Again, since it is a jam night, you could ask another band to sit in for a set, which would buy some time out of the night. Just some options to throw at you. If I was able, I'd sit in with you guys. Lemme know how things turn out.

yeah, Ski, actually, I was thinking kinda the same thing for the Tone man, (aside from my usual banter)

as long as they don't misrepresent themselves..

Hey Tone, since the guy didnt listen to you to begin with, now it created a problem for you. Its hard to burn a bridge when your name is on the bill, because it will come back on you. "bad news travels faster than good news" I know much of your set list from previous times we played, so where and when and if my schedule permits I will help you out. you know my work schedule so if you can work the time so I can be on my job by 11 pm I will be there to help you all out.

The Jam night is hosted by the same band every week but they are trying to get buisness by putting names in the paper for it. There's 2 or 3 other well known bands advertised for the same night so they will be fine without us but it just ticks me off the way the whole thing went down, I know if we go he'll do the same thing again probably next month and again and again.

I don't think I'm gonna worry about it but let me just say if you saw us advertised in the Tribune Democrat for a Jam night on Thursday don't go to see us cause we won't be there. However there are some other good bands on the roster and you may want to see them. Unless of course they feel the same as I do they may not be there either. Personally I don't care if he cancels our scheduled Saturday, its just wrong and I don't care to deal with that !!!

where do i start..
first i guess. tony this is some enlightening news thanks for letting me find out how you really feel about me and the band for helping you on your way to the rock star you feel youve become now...but im running the biggest ,hottest night club in the area, and have signed and sponsered acts beating my door to death daily trying to get what ive offered you cause i thought we were friends and i like you guys,
now i have to take time out of my 12 hour days to play a meaningless game of retort the retard..
i know everyone is busy, and its easy to forget things..i do it every day
but i do remember us talking and i knew about the band obligations.to which i said dont worry its just jam night me mark and jimmy will be there to fill in anyone that cant come, just bring you and wife, and guitar, you'll
make alot of new friends, plus the 180 people you'll debut for. to promo
the feb show. the feb sched. come out today...ill complicate my life again and only run 100 copys for the weekend call me by sat. and let me know
if you dont need this kind of big publicity for your band and ill give it to skell or lost ledney who do ..believe me i dont need to entice people to my
club with your name who noone there even knows yet. im just giving you a free ad. and if you're not ready to run with the big dogs yet.. thats fine
do it your way. it doesnt matter to me at all. but if your gonna stab me in the back, at least do it for a good reason, and call me first next time.
remember before you make a habit of burning bridges..make sure your not on a rock in the middle of nowhere. and 2 I KNOW EVERYBODY..

I almost forgot that this was a discussion board, not a back stabbing area. A place to go to pose questions, offer suggestions, trade, sell, and discuss.

If you forgot and booked them anyways, oh well, that's your bad. If they said book us and have to renigg, oh well, that's their bad. But when they make a post asking what we'd do if we were in their shoes, DO NOT bight their heads off and belittle them infront of others because you made a mistake.

That is piss poor management skills on your behalf and that is just showing the other Rockers here what kind of asshole they might get the pleasure of dealing with if they decided to come play at your establishment. Thanks for showing the rest of us your true colors.
