It is great, that is for sure. You can easily get lost in it.songsmith wrote:That was the record that made me a rock fan. I was 9 or 10 when it came out, and it was after hearing it that I understood that music could make you feel something, that melody and emotion were related. Like how haunting the word "road" is on the chorus of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, just by jumping up a vocal octave and riding the word on the sustained notes. It can still give me chills, if I haven't heard it for awhile.f.sciarrillo wrote:Elton John

Norman Greenbaum released this in 1969, but it sold over a million units just in May of 1970.

Although "Spirit in the Sky" has a seemingly Christian theme, Greenbaum was and still is a practicing Jew. He was inspired to write the song after observing country singers Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner singing a religious song on television.
Greenbaum is regarded by some as a one-hit wonder; however, several of his records placed prominently in the charts. In 1968, under the name Dr. West's Medicine Show and Junk Band, he recorded the novelty hit "The Eggplant That Ate Chicago".

Canned Ham could in no way be compared to Spirit as a hit. It charted, but Spirit In the Sky was a top 3 hit in the Us, and #1 in the UK, Canada and Australia.moxham123 wrote:Au contrare!
