Febuary starts nascar .. Any fans here ???

Post by f.sciarrillo »

O.k who here is a Nascar fan ? Me, I love Nascar. I can't wait till the 500 to see the season start. Make sure you all watch it, you will see junior win it two years in a row :)

GO DEI !!! Although I don't really have a favorite driver since Big E died, I am a little bit more Pro - DEI than any of them. Other than that I just like watching it, and pretty much root for any of them.

So who likes it and who do you like ??

Die hard Dale, Jr. fan (plus a bigger Dale, Sr. fan when he was alive). I get to go to at least one race every year.

I went to Pocono in 2001. It was amazing, I met a couple of the drivers and announcers. I tried everything I could to meet Michael Waltrip and dale Jr., All I got was sun poisoning. I would love to go to another, It was a lot of fun.

And ESA - Ricky Craven is no longer in it. Bobby Hamilton Jr. is driving the 32 (tide car) this year. Did any of you see where dodge changed the body style to the charge for this year ?? I wonder if that means they could be releasing the chargers again.

I read they already have the Charger in a Snoop Dogg video... they hit big with the rap crowd with those 300's, so they're marketing to rap fans along with the midlife-crisis set.--->JMS

Rap fans are now in the midlife crisis set. Rap's been dead for years, with hip-hop taking over. They now call rap "old skool".

Dontcha love it?

Now I hear stuff that came out when I was in high school on WALY, the local oldies station. Doh!------>JMS

They may be old skool, but there is only one old sKool.

I am anxious to see what they will look like. I already know they will look better than the stupid intrepid. It would be cool if chevy came out with the camero classic style and nascar changed to them also. Then you would see ford changing to the mustang style. But then again maybe not, with the restrictions on wheelbase size and such it might not happen.

Anyway; I can't wait till the season starts again .. :)

I expect to be following NASCAR a little more closely this year, since there's no hockey to tie me over to baseball season (GRRR!). I've always been an auto racing fan, but have always been more into Indy-car and open-wheel auto racing. But I always watch the Daytona 500, and will watch a NASCAR race if I stumble across one while channel surfing. I don't have any specific current fave drivers. I used to root for Cale Yarborough years ago when he was racing.

I'm looking forward to Daytona this year because one of the local fire halls has a big Daytona party with the race on several big screen TV's, a massive food spread, beer on tap, and door prizes every 15-20 minutes. I went to it with several friends last year, an excellent time!

Along the same lines I get a kick outta that "1985" song with lyrics like " when did Motley Crue become classic Rock " " Bruce Springsteen , Madonna, way before Nirvana " Its a funny tune

NASCAR used to be the only sport I followed with any regularity, I watched faithfully, played the fantasy leagues and office pools, bought the merch... after Dale hit the wall, which coincided with a particularly low point in my life, I just didn't have the heart to enjoy it the way I did before. My best friend was a fan since before Dale Sr. even got to Winston Cup, back when I used to poke fun at him for watching rednecks go in circles, and I doubt he's watched more than 10 minutes of a race since 2001.
I actually like the wrap-up shows better, the one with Micheal Waltrip, Kenny Schrader, and Johnny Benson is great. The races are getting to be 490 miles of boredom followed by an exciting sprint to the flag.---->JMS

Yeah, big NASCAR fan here. Favorite driver is Rusty Wallace. Can't wait for the shootout February 12. Sucks we've got to play that night but that's what the VCR is for. I actually dig all kinds of motorsports-Indy, Formula One (how about that Michael Schumacher), World of Outlaws, Motocross/Supercross, etc but NASCAR is by far my favorite. Not too sure about the look of that Dodge Charger yet. That nose is kind of goofy lookin'. With the use of NASCAR's common templates the rest of the race version of the car looks pretty much like the Fords & Chevys and nothing like the street version. And to bassist_25, indeed there is only one old sKool! Fershizzle.
old sKool was here...

I've gotta say that the new Charger front end looks like shite. The flat front grille section also looks very un-aerodynamic compared to the Intrepid.

Image

Good call JMS, it certainly looks like they are trying for that same Bentley look that they used in the 300C (hence the rapper/hip-hop appeal). Not a good look for a performance sports car IMO.

And f.sciarillo is right, there won't be a Mustang or Camaro racing in NASCAR. They only use full size models, sort of like Lane Bryant.

BDG, the templates aren't completely common across car manufacturers, each make gets it's own template set. The only common parts are the greenhouse, the roof and the decklid. They are talking about using a single body style in the future though.

Esa, Ricky Craven will be racing in the Craftsman truck series in 2005.

I was introduced to NASCAR at a young age by my grandfather, and became a Davey Allison fan in my mid twenties. After Davey died, I didn't really cheer for anyone until I saw the (then rookie) Stewart do the Indy 500/CocaCola 600 combo on Memorial Day 1999 and finish in the top-10 at Indy and the top-5 in Charlotte. It was the last race I got to watch with Pap.

I was impressed with Stewart's sheer will to race, along with his prior championships in other racing divisions. I then saw my first live NASCAR race at Pocono in June of 1999, and I was hooked.

Now if I could just find those pictures of Tony and I. I met him in 2001 at Indianapolis, along with his sister, mother, father and jet pilot. (Not the guy who was killed in the Martinsville plane crash, that was his 'copter pilot.) They were all extremely cool and down to earth.

Two races per year is now my minimum dose of live NASCAR race action. There is no division in all of motorsports with a higher level of competition.

My favorite track so far? Martinsville.

Go #20
... and then the wheel fell off.
