Biggest band Problems

Every sample of reasoning here seems to hold truth to the matter. I have seen almost every example of this. Especially the creative differences. I have also seen the "self-challenge" issue as well. I have seen band members go with the "this song will be real easy to do" logic. That sometimes can become a burden when other band member(s) want to achieve higher goals. I have definately seen the commitment problem, I have been on both sides of that issue as well. Sometimes the financial end comes into view. It takes money to be in a band and make it work, whether it is for promotion, equipment, whatever. Some band members are putting up money and their time while others don't contribute, which sometimes we can't all afford it but that is a reason why not to play with one another. Why do we continue to live this lifestyle? I guess because our passion is beyond our own control and better judgement. But God isn't it fun? I don't know I have ogtten burned out way too often thats why I am in retirement right now. So anyone want to write a song?

Great topic.
* Guys in skirts are definite problems. I agree with this. Long haired hippies...in pink plaid. Fancy lad's if you will.
*Women. Yes, I'm one...but as the guys in ESY have said, I'm trained. I'm not in a band persay, but I'm very active with them.
The chicks that go to the gigs/practices that are always like, "Oh honny, you played sooooo good! Gimmee mootches you big, sexy beast!" throw off their manly groove. Also, chicks not getting along with other guys chicks are a bad combo. Know that from experience.
Also, the band widdow syndrome drives me up a wall. "Oh, they're playing and we're just sitting here. Woa is me. I want to dance and he won't put that fk'in guitar down!" That drives me up a wall. I have never missed one of his shows, and yet I'm not bored. I'm not sitting there pittying myself. I'm there supporting my man, and even if a show sucks, atleast he knows I'm there for him and the other guys. The chicks that sit there being widdows eventually will bring down their men and the playing-high will be strained and bring the band down.
Boobies to look at are good. Boobie touching in front of your woman is bad.
*Men. Over protection, scaring off fans if their chick is in the band. Fear of another moving into their territory.
*Money. What is split out or what is left in for "group things". Eventually you will see one member taking more money out for equipment than others take out. That causes a ton of anamosity.
*Substance abuse, either too much alcohol or too much drugging.
*Ego. Setting yourself over your band members or treating one (or more) inferior. Taking advantage of a member and not giving them propper credit. Not doing your share of the work or doing more than your share of the work.
::thinks::
*Ohh..and not buying enough shots for the other members. Gotta have shots!

Wha' Happened ?
I feel your pain , about break-ups , and I've read some very good answers about why it happens....I'm lucky about the band-widow thing....my wife says " Not playing tonight ? Go make some money! ".
Esa seems to have her head together about this , and every guy wants support from his better half....especially if she knows that the crowd women are part of the scene , and not a part of her man's plans.
I've been doing this for 27 years , and to tell the truth , sometimes a band just runs out of gas , and a new project can jump-start your interest.
Good subject.

1. Yoko fuckin' Ono = Women!
Simple, do you take your wife/girlfriend to work to "help" with your job?
~
2. Drugs/Booze
I think this is ongoing/never-ending and saddest of them all. I've met, played with, and buried some great friends/musicians. As much love as I have for these fallen brother's...I'm a little selfish and hate them a little bit too. You with experience in this know the feeling.
~
3. Lack of commitment
If a guy shows up to practice every single time but isn't committing himself to the song's...slacking, he'd rather hit on the singer's wife.
If a guy calls and say's, "I'm on my way." But doesn't show up for another hour if at all...slacking, he'd rather be trying to fuck the pump girl at Sunoco.
~
I know these reasons have been posted already, but to put the personal spin on it makes the topic interesting. Plus I wanted to apologize to that chick at Sunoco for making her late for her hubby's gig...Sorry dude, she was askin' for it.

I consider myself blessed. almost every band i've been in over the past
40+ years have lasted a long time. There was only 2 that didn't last long,
and that was because of mostly differences in music styles. One guy thought that the others in the band could read his mind, which brings me to what i think is the main reason i think bands break up-- lack of communication. I was only in one band that had the drug problem, and i just quit when a few of the group showed up too stoned to play.
A lot of musicians forget that they are being paid to put on a show, not get
drunk or stoned. The club owner expects service for paying you, and you owe it to him to do the very best you can, and try to do it professionally, whether the club is packed or not. The group i'm with now is great. Sure we have differences of opinion occasionally, but we talk it out and basically get along just fine. The wives are supportive, but
they don't meddle, and that's fine too. The only time they really say
anything is if we ask their opinion on something. We don't always agree
with what they say, and that's ok too. We strive to get better, and that's
why it works for us. No one in our group has an ego problem, and i find
that's another issue with a lot of bands (mostly young groups) Get over it-- you are not God's gift to music, no matter what you think. There is
always someone who can blow you off the map musically. Just do the
best you can and enjoy every single moment of it. I am truly thankful
that i had a chance in life to do something i truly love, and i hope all of
you feel the same about your craft.

The main 2 reasons for getting out, to me at least:
1. Health and/or work. The most important things in life besides family, IMO. You can't take care of business at home if you are sick or have no money.
2. Out of the last batch of new material, 10 or so songs, I only enjoy playing 1 of them. If I'm the only one that doesn't like them or my opinion of the material isn't being considered, its time to let someone else step in because I'm ruining it for the other guys.

One of my favorite jokes concerning women and bands:
A musician dies and goes to Heaven. St. Peter says, So…you’re a musician. Well we’ve got a pretty good band up here ourselves. Let me show you.
The musician is ushered to a place where a wailing band is playing. He is flabbergasted. On guitar is Jimi Hendrix, on bass, Jaco Pastorius, drums, Buddy Rich, Dizzy Gillespie is blowing on the trumpet, Charlie Parker on sax, and Duke Ellington on piano.
The musician says, Wow…this is great! St. Peter says, There’s just one problem…God’s got a girlfriend, and he thinks she can sing.
Alternate Ending: St. Peter says, There’s just one problem… There's a Chick in the band!!
