HOMEGROWN ROCKER 4/17/11

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 17 edition of Rocky 99 and Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com) and WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

With no guests scheduled this week, we used the opportunity to get caught up on new local/regional recordings that arrived at “Homegrown Rocker” headquarters in recent weeks. We debuted numerous new songs from Halestorm, Inside Out, Rob Carlton, Scorched, The Downfall, BloodShot, Mindspine, Saving Jake, Identity X and The Atomic Drops. Along the way, we updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1986 song by The Edge from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” went “Across State Lines” to hear a song by Virginia’s Shane Cooley, and we reviewed Matt Otis’ Life Love Death CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

HALESTORM – “Slave to the Grind”
NAILDRIVER – “Executioner”
INSIDE OUT – “Vampire Eyes”
LOVEBETTIE – “Are You Out There”
ROB CARLTON – “Black Jack”
THE TAKEN – “Toxic Beautiful”
SCORCHED – “Fight for Me”

On our next program, we welcome young Hollidaysburg rockers E.V.K.! We’ll learn their story and hear songs from their forthcoming new CD. We’ll also update “Local Music News,” dig into the archive for another “Local Music Flashback,” and review Scorched’s Frozen CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” E.V.K. on the “Homegrown Rocker,” next Sunday night!

In Local Music News…

The 8th annual Smoked Country Jam bluegrass festival is once again sponsoring the Pennsylvania Heritage Songwriting Contest. Amateur songwriters are invited to submit acoustic songs with a Pennsylvania theme; there is an entry fee of $15 per song, and entrants may submit up to two songs each. The top three entrants win cash prizes, free passes to the festival, and the opportunity to perform their winning song entries on the main stage during the Smoked Country Jam on Saturday, June 18. The deadline for entries is May 15. The Smoked Country Jam will take place from June 16-18 at Quiet Oaks Campground in Cross Fork, PA (north of Renovo), and a portion of the festival proceeds benefit the Lupus Foundation of Pennsylvania. For more information about the festival and the Pennsylvania Heritage Songwriting Contest, visit the Smoked Country Jam website at www.smokedcountryjam.com.

The 5th annual Day Of Rock benefit concert will happen at a new location this year. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, May 7 at Legion Park in Hollidaysburg beginning at 2 PM. Bands slated to participate in this year’s Day Of Rock include Ganister, NailDriver, Felix & the Hurricanes, Hello Vixen and others. Proceeds from Day
Of Rock benefit Easter Seals of Central Pennsylvania. Representatives from Day Of Rock will discuss the event on the May 1 edition of the “Homegrown Rocker.”

Mysterytrain is set to announce their outdoor festival schedule this week.
