Our drummer told me a story that when he and a couple other Johnstown area musicians were studying at Berklee School of Music in Boston back in the early 70s that Joe Pass was doing a show at a small club. They went to see him play and were very impressed of course. Being young guys from Johnstown, they thought it would be cool to meet him. They said he was very nice to them and thought it was interesting that they were musicians from his hometown and appreciated them coming up to talk to him. However, when he asked where they were from and they replied Johnstown, Joe said, "Get out of that town, there is nothing there for musicians and that is why I left." Gee, how some things never seem to change and his words still hold true today.
