I was a youngster when this became a hit. I had the vinyl edition. Every band played it and the crowd would go nuts at the first few notes.moxham123 wrote:Okay, I just had to post this one.
In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida - Iron Butterfly at 17:05 minutes (the live recorded version was 19:00 minutes)
Nope, I never played it...
song
In My Time of Dying - Led Zep
Favorite one lately: Porcupine Tree - "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here"
Some of my other favorite "bathroom" tunes (in the radio biz, it used to be that songs over ten minutes were popular with deejays because they could "make a deposit" in the bathroom when one of these was playing):
Yes - "Close to the Edge" and "Heart of the Sunrise"
Pink Floyd - "Dogs"
Led Zeppelin - "Carouselambra" and "Achilles' Last Stand"
Emerson Lake & Palmer - "Tarkus Medley"
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band - "The Hot City Symphony"

Oh
Oh you said "Rock" cause if it was metal then it would have to be
Jethro Tull "Thick as a Brick" at 43.28. Strongly recommended..
But for rock I would say...
Led Zeppelin "Dazed and Confused" at 26.53 (live Version)

Re: Oh
Even Jethro Tull didn't think they were metal but they have a grammy for metal. 1998 First Grammy for metal goes to...Jethro Tull. The band even thought it was funny.onegunguitar wrote:I wouldn't consider Jethro Tull metal....tornandfrayed wrote:Oh you said "Rock" cause if it was metal then it would have to be

" Well, apparently you were not a member of the Recording Academy circa 1988. The first instance of a category for Hard Rock/Metal, the award was given to the flute-tastic Jethro Tull's Crest of a Knave over Metallica's And Justice For All. Fans (and even some audience members) were rightly outraged, though Tull's record label tried to make light of the faux pas by placing a Billboard ad that read, "The flute is a heavy, metal instrument."

A live version of Skynyrd's Freebird
Ok, in all seriousness, I have 9 tracks, 2 of which are live, with over 10mins of play time...
Opeth - By The Pain I See In Others at 10:08 (although the track itself has a hidden track that brings the length to 13:48, the main song of the track goes to 10:08)
Sisters of Mercy - This Corrosion at 10:17
Opeth - A Fair Judgement at 10:22
Opeth - The Leper Affinity also at 10:22
Metallica - One (a live version) at 10:24
Sonata Arctica - The Power Of One at 11:32
Iron Maiden - Rime of the Ancient Mariner at 13:39
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird (a live version) at 14:11
Iced Earth - Dante's Inferno at 16:26
Of these, I don't really listen to This Corrosion, Freebird, or the live version of One much. Afterall, I suppose live versions are kinda cheating anyway, so you really don't even need to include them. But otherwise, these are all pretty good stuff!

Speaking of "notes" I'm sitting on a"68" "Vox Continental" combo organ that has the exact sound. Doing that song is one of my fantasies.Hawk wrote:I was a youngster when this became a hit.
