IMO "Jessie's Girl" is one of the great psycho-social experiments of the century. Many casual music fans "love" that song. But watch them sing along to it. Everybody knows a line or two from the chorus and... that's it.

Most people don't realize that the song Jessie's Girl is already 30 years old. Heck, I played it when it was new and now it is a classic oldie.

Some facts about Jessie's Girl. It was released on March 17, 1981 and became an instant hit, reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks, and later won Springfield a Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. The song was at #1 when MTV launched on August 1, 1981

According to Springfield in an interview with Oprah, he was taking a stained glass class along with his friend Gary and Gary's girlfriend. He initially wanted to use the actual name of the friend he was singing about, but instead decided to go with a different name — "Jessie". He happened to see a girl in a softball jersey with the name "Jessie" on it and changed the name from Gary to Jessie, then recorded the song. He says that he does not remember the name of the girlfriend, and believes that the real woman who inspired the song has no idea that she was "Jessie's Girl". "I was never really introduced to her. It was always just, like, panting from afar."

You can post that. That song (The original) is the first song I dedicated to my wife. Lionel Richie is one of my favorite artist of all time, as well as one of my guilty pleasures lol.

Here is a song that was out twice in the 80s

Sheriff - When I'm WIth You

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QzrMo_3B4I

(1983) Canadian Singles Chart #8 & U.S. Billboard Hot 100 #61
(1989) U.S. Billboard Hot 100 #1 & U.S. Billboard Adult Contemporary #1

Freddy Curci is listed in the Guinness Book of Records for holding the longest note in a pop song, timed and submitted by a Houston university, at the ending line of "When I'm with You."

"When I'm with You" was originally released in 1983, and peaked at #64 in the U.S. Disappointed by the lack of success, the band broke up.

In 1988, a disc jockey in Las Vegas began playing the song, and other stations followed. This encouraged Capitol Records to re-release the song in 1989 and it hit #1 U.S.

By that time, 2 band members formed Frozen Ghost and declined to re-form the group. Freddy Curci and Steve DeMarchi subsequently formed the band Alias with Roger Fisher, Steve Fossen, and Michael DeRosier from Heart and had a huge hit in 1990 with "More Than Words Can Say".
