Guitar Lessons????
Guitar Lessons????
Okay folks, I need to get some advice.
My wife's friend is looking for a place (or person) to get guitar lessons for her 14 year old daughter. I don't think she has any experience or anything, so basically she needs to start at the beginning as a novice.
She lives in the Gallitzin/Ashville area.
Does anyone have any suggestions about who or where you would go to get her started? Personally, I know that I sometimes get strange looks because I can read music (I can't play all that well, but put the music in front of me and I can give it a go), but I would rather see someone learn all the theory and how to read first.
So, please, if you have any suggestions - I have been away from all that lesson stuff for well over 2 decades!!
Thanks,
Urbs

my daughter takes of Ric Criste, he's awesome. Like Rick Wertz, he teaches the kids to play the songs THEY want to learn, not old school Red River Valley crap out of a book that would have bored my kid immediately...
some kids might learn better that way, but not mine. So consider how this kid would learn best and match up teacher to student. I think there's lots of ways to learn guitar!

I meant my daughter would be totally bored learning theory and reading music out of a book. She learned that way for several years with piano (Suzuki method), which by the way she hated, even though she had an excellent teacher. At least she has some knowledge of theory and reading music from that, and maybe it's something that would interest her to learn more of later.

there are definitely a lot of ways to learn guitar, depending on whether they (the student) wants to learn to be a guitar "player" or wants to play and sing and write songs. I have around 20 students and teach them all in different ways, which is very challenging for me as well. It makes me use my brain a lot (which hurts sometimes!).as opposed to having them buy books, I write out tablature paper that I print out myself.
Depending on where you live, I teach in Ebensburg and Barnsboro.
If you are down in blair county, though, I would definitely recommend one of those other Ricks. (my name is Rick too)

CUNTS will be CUNTS.
If I had more time, I would resume giving lessons, but anymore, it's just too time consuming with everything I've got going on at the present time. I'd love to start teaching, there's nothing better than showing someone somthing, and how they light up, when they understand it, or are able to play it.
