Bogner Amps. Who used them?

Post by f.sciarrillo »

I have been eying a Bogner Ecstasy up a lot lately, and the price isn't the only thing gives me a rise - $3500.00 just for the head! anyway, has anyone tried one yet? I looked at a couple of demos for them on youtube and they sound incredible. What are your thoughts?

I do not plan on buying one, I am just curious if they are really as good as they seem. I am, however, thinking about getting a Line 6 DT50, which is a Bogner built half stack. It is made to integrate with the HD500, so figured they would make a great match :)

The Bogner XTC 101b is all that, and a bag of chips. There is no tonal ground that it can not cover. They can be had used for around the $2,500.00 range. The low cost Bogner foriegn made stuff like the Alchemist and the Line 6 stuff is not even in the same realm and to think they are is simply ludicrous. That being said my reccomendation is to save your money and get the real thing.

I had an Ecstasy Classic for a little while. It was quite easily THE best sounding amp that I have ever plugged into. The cleans were crystal clear, if you wanted them to be, dirty if you wanted. The second channel (blue) was rock all the way up to metal and the third channel (red) gave me enough gain to play liquid leads, but was aggressive enough to riff like a madman.

With all of that praise being laid upon the amp, I have to say that I sold it. First, it made me nervous to have something that expensive just sitting around my house, in my car and in the dives that I find myself playing in. Second, I felt that other guitar players might see that amp and expect WAY more from me than I was going to give them. hahaha

I can dig the high expectation from something like that. If people see you with one of those, they would expect you to sound like Vai or something. I would love to try one out. As for owning one? They are too costly for me.

I only had one because I happened to fall into a trade situation. I had some stuff that someone wanted and they had the Bogner. It was amazing to try, but just too much for me in the end.

Amen.

My thought process is always why own boutique when you are playing thru a radio shack front of house?

i have no prob with boutique prices; i just don't find them to be any more inspirational to my playing. if a boutique amp is how you need to find your voice then i totally get it. if your soul speaks through your fingers playing a Bogner, then buy a Bogner. i always disagree with Killjingle on this; running through a shitty PA is like living next to a dumpy neighbor. its not going to affect how i keep my home looking because your home is a reflection of you and how you percieve and interpret what you see and feel- just like your tone. even if it doesn't make a difference in the front of the house, it matters to me. maybe i'm just a pompous asswipe lol.

i dug the Bogner Ubershalls i've played. the gain is really chewy and thick. my only issue was that it didn't have the "edge" like a Mesa has. it wasn't agreeable to my style but a cool amp...

Agreed.
