Tinariwen ("The Desert Boys") from north Africa. Mellow and trancey, Tinariwen has influenced a lot of current music like U2, Coldplay, and Sting.

The Fox Hunt (and fans) singing an original, "Lord We Get High." The Fox Hunt plays around here a few times a year, and they're freaking fantastic. Right now, they're in Ireland touring, but they're just guys from a little south of here, picking because they like it. Incredible work ethic, too.

The Weedhawks doing, "Pot Patrol," a well-crafted original about a backwoods grow operation. The Weedhawks are not somebody you'd want to open for you, because you'll get blown off the stage. They're insidious, how they appeal to old folks and young snots. They play bluegrass festivals, punk shows, house parties, Key West party-bars, and yes, they play around here. You HAVE to see them, if only to figure out how they make a band's worth of noise with two people.

And, in the interest of self-promotion:

It's something we did at rehearsal night before last, just my little recorder on the floor in the center of the circle, Mama Corn doing an old Ralph Stanley song, "Poor Rambler." I like how we just say, "let's do that one," then kick it off and go. It's the first time we ever tried the whole song, ever.

Riot. This was another band that deserved to be far bigger than they were. They had several line-ups over the years; both of their best-known singers, Guy Speranza and Rhett Forrester, are no longer around. Guitarist Mark Reale still keeps Riot alive on his website:
