orientation

Post by ShedShred »

Would you ever have a gay bandmate? I was thinking about the army not wanting gays because of the fear of them hitting on you. Would you be able to talk about emotions & write songs with someone you knew was gay? Like if they wanted to write a love song would it skeeve you out? Do you think Judas Priest guys knew Rob Halford was gay? It's hard for me to listen to their songs now without getting gay images in my head. Like when I hear the ripper, I think 'the raper" and when he sings Turbo Lover I think about him drilling a butt.

It wouldn't bother me in the least.

Besides, in a business fraught prima-donnas, flakes, wanna-bes, substance abusers, and people who just generally have their heads up their asses, sexual orientation should be the least of your worries when scouting for potential bandmates.

Unless I were playing in a Manowar tribute band. Then I might be a bit uncomfortable.

@ Rob - Would you REALLY be confortable staring at the back of a dog f-er all night long? You wouldn't use hand sanitizer every time you touched his 'instrument?"

Why would it matter if the person was gay or not? Just because the person is gay doesnt mean they would hit on every guy they see. Gay people have preferences for who they find attractive! They dont just walk around looking at every guy. Just as a straight guy has his prefs, gay guys have their prefs. The same for straight or gay women.
Why dont people get that?? Its not that hard to comprehend.

Bill Hicks (a comedian) talked about gays in the military. He then went on to impersonate a narrow-minded military man and said "I dont want any GAY people around me when Im killing kids". Bill Hicks brought up a very good point and says that anyone who wanted to join the military should be allowed to. Well, his exact words were a little more offensive so I wont type them as to not ruffle any panties.

Ive never understood why gay people are treated as worth less than straight people. Most of the worst crimes that have ever been committed have been by straight males. Most rapes, murders, child molesting and more are done by straight guys. So, who's the worst human beings??
It always is easier pointing the finger outward than inward, so I guess it makes sense.

Btw, If you get gay erotic images when you listen to music, its not the songwriter's issue...its yours. :D
There's really nothing wrong with that, so dont feel bad... but I wanted to make that clear for you. Lyrics are mostly left for the individual's interpretation. If metal makes you wanna play around in your own ass, then so be it. Thats your choice. Just make sure to trim your fingernails. ;)

Dude, sorry to say this but it sounds like you are homophobic.

It is something that people have to work on. I had the same problem with a guitar player in a band I was in named Scott. He was super hot and terribly heterosexual. I was always picturing him having sex with really big women and it was "hard" to focus... Work through it, I did!

It shouldn't matter. Some of the greatest performers are gay; ie, Elton John.

On another note: Manowar are great!

I would be fine with it.

As far as a bandmate, I would be annoyed by things like
-unprofesionalism
-substance abuse
-unreliable people
etc

As long as the dude has a passion for music, ability to play, good attitude, and sense of team, then I wouldn't have a problem with it. What he does in his spare time is his business, not mine. Some of the coolest people I've known are gay. It's not like they're drooling predators looking at every guy's ass & package...they know who's who.

Way to go Paul for dredging up Manowar...now I gotta dig my albums out! I haven't heard "Gloves Of Metal" for awhile, or "Defender" for that matter.

You said "drilling a butt."
I'm the same way when it comes to Priest, Queen, and pretty much any music I think is "gay"...but I try to block it out and listen to what the guitars are doing. Makes me want to drill a butt...
