White punks on Dope - The most stupid song ...
I heard this song "White Punks On dope" the other day by the pleading of a family member of mine. I have to say that it is the most stupid song I have ever heard. Till this I thought "Keep your hands off my girlfriend" by the Darkness was the most stupid.
Here is the video for it:

So what is the most stupid song you have ever heard?

Music Rocks!
Patience, by Guns N Roses. Despite some pretty brilliant acoustic guitar work by Slash, it just grates on my d*ck-nerve.
96 Tears, by ? and the Mysterians. Two chords. Whiny monotone singer. Really dumb lyrics. I can recognize it and change the station in 2 notes.
All Summer Long, by Kid Rock. He used to be cool, now he rips off Skynrd and Zevon at the same time by adding lyrics that appeal to 8th-graders, and auto-tuning the whole mess until he sounds like Cher. Most disappointing fall from grace, EVER. The song makes me physically angry.
And this might get me killed, but: Amazing Grace and the Star Spangled Banner. I absolutely LOVE both songs, they're as profound as any ever written, BUT, singers ruin them every day. Amazing Grace is a statement of deep gratitude to God, not a vehicle for vocal calisthenics. If you want to nail this song, you need only feel this thankfulness, and connect to it with your heart, and not add a bunch of unnecessary vocal arpeggio's and hand-motions. Same with the National Anthem. It's a song about how America triumphs and remains, even in adversity, NOT a way for the singer to show off their singing chops. Sure, Whitney nailed it in the 80's, but then everything else like it is just an imitation, and Whitney was kind of overdoing it, too. My favorite version was by Jimi Hendrix, he conveyed the spectre of war and sacrifice better than anyone ever, and without singing a single word. When people turn it into a million-note "look at me" song, it's patronizing, cheapening, and DUMB.--->JMS

Dude, the Tubes were awesome. Many of those musicians played with Zappa, and they made several great, over the top, tongue in cheek (lead singer named Quay Lude) albums. Check out:

Loaded with great guitar and keyboard riffs, while making you laugh. Never saw them in concert, but their shows were supposed to be a musical and theatrical spectacle. Steve Lukather wrote and played on many songs like "She's a Beauty".

I always liked "White Punks on Dope." I used to play it pretty often on "Closet Chronicles" a few years back, and always dug the crazy choral homestretch on the studio version of that song. The Tubes were fun.
Along the lines of what Songsmith said, I generally think Guns N'Roses' covers of "Knocking on Heaven's Door" and "Live and Let Die" are both annoying. Axl's whining voice grates on my nerves during both songs.
And a song I've harped on before, one that just about every other band covers, Violent Femmes' "Blister In The Sun." I tolerate it, but think the original version sounded stupid; it just twangs a wrong nerve just about every time I hear it, original or cover.

Agree with you JP on both accounts. Axl's noises in those songs ruined both of those tunes.Jim Price wrote:I always liked "White Punks on Dope." here is an even more over the top version. Love this band.

I love musical comedy, I have the Lenny and Squiggy album and the Martin Mull album, Dueling Tubas. Both have surprisingly good music for comedy albums.

I also agree with you about GnR, Jim. there are very few songs of theirs that I can stand to listen to. A couple I refuse to listen to again, for personal reasons ...White Punks On Dope
Evans/Spooner/Steen
Teenage had a race for the night time
Spent my cash on every high I could find
Wasted time in every school in L.A.
Getting loose, I didn't care what the kids say
We're white punks on dope
Mom & Dad moved to Hollywood
Hang myself when I get enough rope
Can't clean up, though I know I should
White punks on dope
White punks on dope
Other dudes are living in the ghetto
But born in Pacific Heights don't seem much betto
We're white punks on dope
Mom & Dad live in Hollywood
Hang myself when I get enough rope
I can't clean up, though I know I should
White punks on dope
White punks on dope
I go crazy 'cause my folks are so fucking rich
Have to score when I get that rich white punk itch
Sounds real classy, living in a chateau
So lonely, all the other kids will never know
We're white punks on dope
Mom & Dad live in Hollywood
Hang myself when I get enough rope
Can't clean up, though I know I should
White punks on dope
White punks on dope

Speaking of which, I have not yet seen Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story or Its a Wonderful Life yet. It does not seem to be Christmas without these movies.f.sciarrillo wrote:Mox, every time I look at those I think of Clark Griswald ...

It just seemed in past years that you couldn't avoid seeing them on TV somewhere. So far, not a peek.f.sciarrillo wrote:What are you waiting for Joe? I see what you are talking about. I haven't seen them on television either. I did see National Lampoon Christmas Vacation on tv a couple of times, though.undercoverjoe wrote:It just seemed in past years that you couldn't avoid seeing them on TV somewhere. I'm tossing in "Peaches" & "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm." Two totally dumb songs....but I listen to them. I have no idea why. But I hear them and go "Aw hell, not THIS" and keep jamming
