He can be a real a-hole, also. I have an issue of Modern Drummer magazine with a great interview with Jamie Oldaker (and had a chance to ask Jamie about it in a phone interview), who used to play with Leon Russell. In the interview, Oldaker talked about getting the call to play with Eric Clapton starting with the 461 Ocean Blvd. record. Apparently, Leon told Jamie to take the gig, as it was a great opportunity. 35 years later, Leon still refuses to talk to Jamie, claiming that he deserted Leon to play with Clapton. I've heard of grudges, but damn!!f.sciarrillo wrote:Leon Russel is great ..
(And a bit of trivia for the drummers out there...the drum break in "I Shot The Sheriff" that is very difficult to count is NOT a trick by Jamie. It was a bad tape splice by the engineer that they never fixed.)

A similar piece of trivia is that on the outro of Fire by Jimi Hendrix, there's a section where Noel Redding goes back to the intro riff in the middle of the chorus runs he's playing. This was actually a mistake on Noel's part, as he thought Jimi and Mitch were going back to the intro riff. They dug it, so they kept that take for the album.
"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.

That is very cool info there, Kevin. I never knew that about Leon. There are a lot of assholes in the music business, though. Each one has their own I guess. I have heard about that same thing happening, for example; When Barry Manilow left Bett Midler's band to do his own thing, she didn't talk to him for almost 10 years. She said that she was't upset at him for having a successful career, she was upset because she felt he deserted her.

And, another thing. Every other Hall of Fame, whether it is music, sports, etc. all hold their induction ceremonies at the halls of fame locations. However, the R&R Hall of Fame is the only one that holds theirs in another city. Why would you have an induction ceremony in New York City and the hall of fame is in Cleveland? That is so stupid. I know the reasons but they are still stupid.

Thats because Cleveland sucks....any who...I agree there are a ton of bands and individuals that should have been inducted into the hall way before some of the bands there now and soooooooooooooo help me god if someone puts another rap star, bubble gum pop star in before the list show in previous posts, we should storm the Hall of Fame and scream for justice!!!!moxham123 wrote:And, another thing. Having talent is one thing....what you do with it is something else
