He does not like metal at all. Hew is into an almost hippie/folk/punk thing that is happening with bands like Brand New, Never Shout Never, Sparks the Rescue, Hit the Lights and lots of others. These kids play the shit out of their instruments and do lots of local tours. Places like Eldolyn Terrace and the Arcade Center (? name) draw lots of kids at $10 a pop for a show consisting of 3 to 6 bands. The whole show is backlined and they kick ass between sets to keep the flow up... We have seen a lot of great bands at these shows and the kids can hang with these guys before and after.. Lots of fun!
This scene has renewed my faith in live music in general.. These kids love this shit and they are willing to pay to see it. They also almost all buy CD's from these guys!
So we will probably go with the Line 6 Spyder for the sheer array of sounds and styles that it allows...
We can leave the old school stuff for old school guys! Ginger....:-}
Peace!

You can have all those amp modeler's,processor's,etc...been there,done that. In the end this "old school guy" came to the realization that tubes create great tone,no matter if it's metal,jazz,country,punk or rock. Mesa's and Engl's are way more than just metal amps,you really have to sit down and play through them to fully understand them. I have Botteicher's Mesa/Boogie Studio 22+ combo and it is one sweet amp,from clean to rock to metal,it does them all quite nicely.

As you
As you know Scott I am a staunch supporter of Keep it Simple" but in this case, and at 11, I think that diversity will help him to find what he does not like.
As you stated, you have been through that, I agree with hat but I also think that the sooner he gets experience with different sounds/modelers/effects etc then the sooner he is going to start to really know what he wants/does not want.
The Amp sounds great to me and we will take it to the next blues jam and leave it up there for everyone to play through. I can hardly wait to see how it holds up. From all accounts I believe that the re tubing helped considerably. But alas my ear is soiled and I seem to prefer the sound of Mudvayne to that of Clapton when it comes to my guitar... Go figure..
So this is not only a very cool conversation about tubes and all things tubage but also a great lead in to promote the Blues jam that Hawk puts on every so often.... Hint Hint Hint......
