Need a power supply for my pedal board.
Need a power supply for my pedal board.
Just as the ad says im looking for something that wont
fry my pedals cause i have 9 of em on the board now
and was looking at running a 1 spot daisy chain but
the reviews said if the cap on them goes it can fry
all of your pedals at once. Looking for a dunlop dc
brick or voodoo power supply or if any of you guys
know a better (& cheaper) solution let me know.

The risk is also that if a pedal shorts out, the voodoo will keep supplying, power. The one spot is also like putting all your eggs in one basket. For example you will be SOL if say you loose or break the daisy chain cable. I believe that the voodoo and other can still work if only 1 power port goes bad (depending on the problem)IcePick wrote:Just as the ad says im looking for something that wont

THe Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2 Plus would be my first choice. Its the standard and I have never heard a bad review about it.
I believe the Dunlop DC brick is just a fancy one spot with a box. (No true isolation.)
Another is BBE Supa Charger. It looks like a copy of the voodoo for 20 cheaper price. I don't have any experience with this so I can't speak for its reliability. I would opt for the Voodoo.
Mod Tone power plant is nice.
Plush P3 is nice.
Gator makes one. I have heard bad reviews and I think their cases are aweful.
T-Rex makes one but its pricey.
I would either do it right and get a Voodoo or do it cheap and get a One Spot. IMO the stuff in between is not worth it. I own the one spot but wish I had a voodoo.

I have no vested interest in saying this other than as a precaution. After all, it's not my money or my pedals. That said, it would be very wise to consider what flood said. I have witnessed a couple of incidents and disasters with low-end psu's. IF it fails, you MIGHT be OK. Depends on what fails (pedal, pedals or ps unit), their connectivity and their placement.
Considering what one generally invests into a pedal chain, it makes next to no sense to cheapen out on the psu. Kinda like buying a sports car and putting low octane ethanol in the tank. But if one can afford to risk the repairs, then so be it.
Pedal Power 2 is among the most popular. They're pretty solid.
T-Rex is quite expensive but they have lots of options. Really sweet ps's.
MXR has a new and huge unit. expensive but has way more options AND power than the above mentioned.
I retired my DC Brick (glorified one-spot) once I learned it only pushes less than 200 mA per 9v socket if only a few are being used. Less if the 9v sockets are closer to full. I guess the advertised higher output is directed to the 18 volt outlets. It's not a bad unit really. Just not isolated and does not offer enough safeguards.
I bought a CIOKS over all of the above after doing a lot of homework. The new MXR unit came in a close second. It wasn't cheap either but neither are pedals. I had to save for a while but it was worth it. MUCH cheaper than replacing several fried pedals and about the same price as we pay for 2 new Boss pedals. In comparison, it is a bargain for the quality, functionality and piece of mind.
