I think its awesome when someone posts to a thread like this and says "good luck getting your account deleted, I already tried!" Thats like standing there with your dick in your hand telling people you are trying to quit whacking off...
lol
Did your basement stay dry?
I don't know if my dungeon did or not...I'm not going down there until spring.
The river came up to its old pre-Agnes bank at the end of my yard, but no further than that.
...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...
Rockpage is what it is, and it is what you make it.
I'm not a fan of the political threads per se, so I often skip over them unless I see a lot of new posts within a short time frame, indicating that somebody probably pushed somebody else's buttons and I have to go see if moderator/administrator action might be needed. But I realize that many Rockpagers want to know what their fellow musicians and music fans are thinking about the day's issues; and although arguments may ensue, it is not unhealthy to have a forum to vent some steam about issues, and get views off your chest.
Ron and I can't be playground monitors on here 24/7. We both have bigger priorities to deal with (right now, I'm in need of new transportation after my car's transmission crapped the proverbial bed last weekend).
What annoys me more is how some musicians quickly blame or diss on Rockpage and threaten to abandon it at the least provocation when they see political posts, or one person rubs them the wrong way. THIS IS YOUR RESOURCE! YOU MAKE IT WHAT IT IS! This forum is your meeting place, your marketplace, and a valuable avenue to network with fellow musicians and fans, discuss (and solve) music issues, promote your shows and more. Quitting this website diminishes its effectiveness as a resource, and in its own way hurts your music community as a whole. A stronger Rockpage is a more effective Rockpage that can do a lot of good for this region's music scene.
Rockpage is still one of the busiest local music forums in this state. You can ask Ron about the numbers for visits on this site per day or week. People do visit and read this website for various reasons. If you're not on here to at least post and promote your music and shows, those are people you're not reaching, and ultimately your loss.
No web community is perfect. Every community has its disputes and drama from time to time. Rockpage is no different. When you get mad at a combative thread, step back and take in the whole picture of what this site is about before you make a hasty judgement. And remember that you have the power to make this local music resource better by taking active part; starting your own threads, promoting your own music and music in general, and continuing to network through this avenue.
And if you're reading my post, mark Jan. 7-8 on your calendars right now and plan to be at 30 Something to offer your support to this website so it can continue to be your music scene resource!

LMAO!
I dig what you're saying, Jim, about Rockpage being what you make it. With that said, I do know a number of people in the scene who have explicitly told me that they don't post on here or have chosen to leave Rockpage because of a lot of the stuff that goes down. I hate to be that dude who whines about the atmosphere here (and there aren't any halos over my head, either). However, as I'm sure many of my bass playing brothers and sisters can attest to here, Talkbass.com is probably one of the best forum experiences on the Internet; and there are thousands upon thousands of people on there from all over the world. However, they are strict with moderation. Political and religious threads are a no-no. Flaming is dealt with quite harshly. It's very Durkhiemian in that the structure determines the culture there. But like you said, you can't live on RP in order to moderate it.
We do have a number of cool nonmusician fans, industry people like engineers, beginning musicians, and vets on Rockpage. However, how come nobody from Green Eggs posts on here? How come nobody from Spinebelt posts here? Hello, Vixen? Velveeta? Go Go Gadjet? Yum? Ninetail? The Moore Brothers? Emily's Toybox? These are all relavent bands right now. Maybe they just aren't the type to post on a forum. Maybe they don't know about Rockpage. Or maybe they took one look at the discussions going on and said, "Not interested." Just some food for thought.
And I know if I took Dave's bet, I'd be out a c-note. Frank will post again.

Ladies, why cant you argue and debate like humans? seriously. Just because YOU HAVE A VIEW on something, doesnt make it RIGHT. To YOU its right, but to some people it may be WRONG. So what does that mean? Who's right? The correct answer is EVERYONE. The reason someone feels one way about a subject is perception. They perceive their view to be right, therefore it must be. Its all about perception.
People used to believe the world was flat. So to them, IT WAS. That was their law, and they were right. If you believe something to be right. Then it is right...to you. I say again, Its all about perception. There is no RIGHT or WRONG.
I could go on this all night.

O.k.. I did some thinking today and decided that I am not going to leave. Sorry to disappoint MJB, is it Mike? and Steve. There is going to be two changes though.
1: I will be slowing the post count down. I took a look at some I have posted and I agree that some are just plain stupid.
2: I will not be posting in any political thread. I was trying to get out of that but kept getting pushed back in. But in light of recent events, that is over with me.
Now for the $100.00 bet that Dave was trying to make. Dave, I will just say that I like your facebook posts.
"Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be kind one to another, forgiving one another, even as God has forgiven you."
Now lets get this back to music and let the political bull shit and the whining bull shit go.
But the diversity is part of what makes this interesting. I have hung out for hour and listened to myself and believe me it gets old, I need other opinions and ideas even if I don;t agree with them.
Music is art and art is objective. Music and opinion will be forever grafted together like it or not..

Rockpage in it's current form is coming up on 8 years of existence this week, and I still visit at least 4 times a week. There is no other site I've visited for more than 2 years, except my MSN homepage, and Ebay, which I hit maybe once a month.
Rockpage is what it is, folks. Some guys we all happen to like made a website for us to BS on, and let's face it, very few of you are noobs. You all know that people post political stuff, and that people react to it. BIG DEAL!!! I react to posts based on my belief that the New Media is dangerous and bad for America, and others vehemently disagree, but I can guarantee one thing: My foils on Rockpage are good people, and I would and have defended them when the chips were down. Ucjoe is a salt-of-the-earth guy, and has EXCELLENT musical tastes, if he says to go see a band, you really should. ToonaRockGuy and RobTheDrummer disagree with my politics, but I'd play in a band with either of them in a New York minute, they're good guys to have around in a pinch, and excellent players. Lonewolf is whip-smart, and has experience most local guys wish they had. Frank, I don't know you well on a personal level, but we occasionally agree, especially on music. Rockpage is what it is, and it's WORLDS better than the junior-high kids who post on that Harrisburg forum, or any other local music forum I've ever seen.
Seriously, if you think Rockpage has it's problems, go find another local music website that allows musicians to post freely. Good luck finding one, and good luck finding a better one.--->JMS

What he said. Many, many musicians here have really broadened my world of music for the better. Thank you all. Bill and I are as different on politics as can be. I can talk to him about music for hours, and I met him here. I would miss this place if it was gone. A lot.
