And Ill add this: Look at the bands playing and comments posted for the "Rockpage Benefit" threads. Not a whole heck of a lot of comments and not a lot of bands (or any) who would normally be balls out for one of those. The Rockpage Jams use to be quite the event and a ton of fun.

Who wants to support a site (no disrespect to JP or Ron) thats basically been overrun by an over-opinionated, intellectually-challenged jackass?

Two things that would help this place get back on track....

The main reason I took it down, was because of a reaction. The post was about the release of the chevy volt. MJB, sorry; I don't know your real name or I would call you that, decided to lash out. I guess from all the frustrations in his life right now, I can see that with christmas being close and all. I have the same thing.

The only thing is that I know how to respect people and don't talk to people in a way to make them look small. I am nothing in person like I am on here - Ask Bill if you don't believe me.

The rant caught me off guard, it did upset me a little bit and I did take the post as well as a slew of others down. I also sent Jim a pm to delete my account.

Discussing politics on Rockpage does absolutely nothing but incite fighting and flames. I fail to see a difference between a political post and trolling. These political posts do absolutely nothing. I truly enjoy political jousting. I can't say I never started a political thread, but I've tried to limit my verbage to debunking. I had a very good time Sunday with Frank and I was hoping people would just not read it if they don't like political discussions.

My friend mjb has called me on my language and attacks directly more than once, and that's cool. [I'm glad you did Mike.] But if one is truly passionate about ANYthing, and it's the opposite of another's point of view, it goes beyond the normal thread length.

Just to make a point. If someone starts a thread that says, "Cover bands suck and the people who only play covers suck", it would turn into the SAME TYPE of thread as a political thread.

On the other hand I've seen some great, entertaining and enlightening threads die off after two or three comments. Perhaps it IS because there are less musicians here on Rockpage. I don't know.

But as long as Ron allows politics, and someone starts a political thread, I'll continue to express myself. And I never understood why anyone would read a thread if it wasn't in their interest to do so? I can honestly say, I've never read a hockey thread or fantasy football thread (and some other threads) because they don't interest me...seems so easy to avoid that which you don't enjoy.

I respect mjb's opinion and Colton's opinion, but I can't be passive when I read a political thread, sorry guys.

Frank and I have met but our schedules don't permit seeing each other at gigs often. The last time his brother Randy played (at Aldo's) we were able to get together, and there was not one fist thrown. Just hand shakes and a few laughs.

If Ron bans politics...cool. If he creates a separate section...cool. If it stays the same as it is now...don't read threads you don't like...cool.

Myself, as so many have commented on this thread is tired of the political comments/threads/agenda.....whatever.

I stopped placing those kind of threads because someone outed me to my boss over a comment i made about nancy pelosi and the health care bill. I eventually took them down as well as some others...stopped my bitchin and whinnin and began to concentrate on other things such as my health and music....

dont know a lot of the people in here on a personal level....and thats my fault I would really like to get to meet some people who are in here, but scheduling, work and other engagements get in the way....

But, this is THEIR fight and Im stayin out of it.....

First, I still don't understand the need to ask a moderator or site owner to delete your account when you decide to quit posting. I've left numerous forums throughout my history on the Internet for various reasons. I just simply quit posting. It's not like moving and having to call the power company to shut off your electricity.

Second, I know I can come off didactic on Rockpage, which I understand may seem abrasive to some people. That's just the nature of the Internet, since things like enunciation and context are often absent. However, I don't buy this idea that you can personally insult people on the Internet; but it's alright, because you're really a great cat to hang with in the real world. A lot of those social constraints in the real world (like getting punched in the face for running one's mouth) are absent on the Internet, so people's true feelings are more apt to come out. Being a douche is being a douche, regardless if the medium is through electronic correspondence or face-to-face contact. It's pretty simple social psychology.

Really though, this forum has gone through numerous changes and it will continue to got through changes, people come and people go. If you don't want to read a post, don't read it. If you don't want to come on this board then don't.

Music attracts people who are unique, with them they often bring a unique set of experiences. We have had quite the plethora of members on this board over the years. Sometimes the conversation is stimulating and sometimes not so much, but it is always a combination of different induhviduals.

I say leave Rockpage alone and let's see what floats to the top...
