Santana's new cover song CD with featured guests

Santana's new cover song CD with featured guests. Take a listen here. It is a departure from his usual guitar playing style and I like it.

I really don't know how I feel about the guest singer formula that Santana's been using for the past decade. I know it's sort of a marketing scheme to sell albums and establish Santana as being relavent in this time period, but it comes off making the albums sound disjointed in a way. I have Supernatural and there is brillant playing from all who are involved; but it really doesn't entirely feel like a Santana album. :?

I agree with Paul. Although some of the artists appearing on this new cd are good with their respective bands, I don't know how I would feel about them doing covers of others music. I guess we will just have to wait and see how it turns out.

[edit]I found the music part of the page and was listening to some of the songs. I take back what I said above, It isn't that bad. I am going to get it. They did a good job on it .. [/edit]

[edit][edit] If anything, listen to Little Wing with Joe Cocker. It was amazing ... [/edit][edit]

I guess I just prefer Carlos playing like Carlos. He should get all those musicians together to make an album of Santana great songs. Or remake Santana Abraxas with current day musicians.

I got this, and while some are really good, others are not so good and should have never been touched. I couldn't make it a minute thru "Back In Black."

I checked this out. I think its horrible. First off, he needs to quit doing his little solo runs over the vocals. Save your little 6 note solos for after the people sing, Carlos.

The "back in black" cover is the worst ever.
He needs to write an album with his band and no one else. There should be no guests. Im sure it would be much better than this current cd.

I was surprised. I actually liked "Whole Lotta Love." I'm a Zep fan and figured I'd hate it, but I do like Cornell's voice.

I agree that the Back In Black cover is downright awful.

I think the thing that has me liking it is just listening to Santana play.

I said a few years ago, to a friend of mine, that his formula of doing an album with all guest singers was getting old. I think "Smooth" convinced him that he could keep doing things that way and everyone would latch onto it.
Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.

Daughtry's version of Def Leppard's "Photograph" made me wince. Way to ruin one of my favorite songs from the 80's.
You bring out the lemming in me.
