Happy Veterans Day - Here is a trivia ...
First I would like to give a big thank you to all who serve and have served. It is because of your sacrifices that us Americans have the freedoms we have. Kudos to all of you, THANK YOU and SALUTE!
With that i have a trivia question. It is a WWII question, and it is in three parts.
Now we all know about the bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. What I would like you to tell me is:
1: What was the name of the B52 that dropped the first bomb? This would be the plane that struck Hiroshima ...
2: What was that name of the B52 that dropped the second bomb? This would be the plane that struck Nagasaki ..
3: If Japan would not have surrendered, where was the next target to be?

Yes, they were B29's. I meant to put that but must have been thinking of the B52 when I made the post.
1: Was Enola Gay for the first plane (The Pilots name was Paul Tibbets) - The first bomb was called Little boy.
2: Was BOCKSCAR (named for its pilot Frederick C. Bock) - The second bomb as called Fat Man
3: The recommended cities were Nagasaki, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Yokohama, and Kokura; but the final drop was believe to be heading to Tokyo. I can't say if that is true or not. I always only known it as speculation.

Different train
Different train of thought.
What could be more of a tribute to a veteran then the thought of ending wars? Or simply the thought of promoting peace though out the world?
I have met very few Veterans of any war that really relish the idea of the continuation of aggressive stances. It is important to promote Peace.
My hat is off to all who have served, but the Military is a means to an end not an answer to a problem. The goal has to be peace and not just lip service peace but the kind that applies to all peoples.
We are a global village weather we agree on that or not does not matter, with the advent of the internet and the kind of global communication that is instantaneous we are in a new age. As times have changed we have evolved and changed along with them. We all know the cute visual of the old man sitting on the porch saying something like "Darn telephones! In my day we talked to people face to face! I'll never use one of those dang blasted things!"
Well the times are changing and we as a nation need to accept that we are in a different position now then we were 50 years ago.
I applaud our Veterans and I applaud our President. Each contributes in the way that most fits their capabilities.
The fish has spoken.. But I am a fish like no other.
I am the fish that feeds man and with the words of strength and love I am the fish that can feed not only a man but a Nation! With the right words the fish can feed all who need to be fed whether they can afford it or not.
Peace.

The beauty
The beauty of life is that we are all unique. Talk about fish, how many different species are there?
24,500! I only wish that we, as the human race, could be so diverse.
Sheep would be a much better reference if you are trying to invoke an image of lemmings blindly following with no thoughts of their own. Although the reference of sheep is really just what everyone else has already said.
I will say again though that I applaud the Veterans of not only our country but of all countries. Seems to me that a lot of those people do what they do for the same reasons, for the love of their families and the love of their Country.
Kudos to all who have served. The people of America owe a great dept to the ones who have given so much so that we can be free. With that freedom we must also work to make them proud of us. To be strong in times of fatigue and to work together to keep our America Strong.
I think that we need to make clear our views and work to obtain and enhance the values that we all have.
We love our children.
We love our Country.
We want good jobs.
We want a bright future for our children and security for our families.
I say that the veterans of our wars, the people who are at war protecting our country right now, might also have viewpoints that are different from one another. I can only imagine though, that when you are in the shit that is war, you have to depend on the guy next to you to watch your back or you will be fucked.
That holds true here also. Right here right now, you all can rest assured that I have your back.
With that in mind I will always be aware of the debt that I owe and the responsibility and burden that I have as an American.
Peace.

Re: Different train
Kudos to all VETS young and old, living or dead. Without them freedom would just be another word on some paper.
No thanks.
Yes, but who will be mayor of that village? George Soros?tornandfrayed wrote:We are a global village weather we agree on that or not does not matter, with the advent of the internet and the kind of global communication that is instantaneous we are in a new age.

This is going to be quite a rollercoaster of a post, and gets pretty deep, but here goes...
I've had friends who have served abroad, I have friends who are serving abroad, and I have friends who will serve abroad. I don't care who the political minds are, who the president is, who the senators or the congressmen are, and I don't care who else is pointing the finger and telling who how to live. The men and women fighting for our country to me stand far beyond their agendas in my respects, unless they're doing something FOR those men and women to truly make things easier on them
I'm no "gun totin' southerner" (though I am from a little more south originally). And I'm no "full-blooded patriot", believing this country will fix all of our problems. I don't support the war itself. I don't care for the fact that several of my friends and so many others are, were or will be doing things that may be against moral or ethical codes, or that someone has to do things their country orders them to do without recourse of what may happen to them or their families. I have a lot less sympathy for our leaders running the show
I just hope that my friends, as all of our men and women fighting these wars, return safe. I hope their time away makes us understand how much they're doing for us. I hope people realize the importance of them signing those papers, and saying "I'll fight for all of you", cos I know I, as well as so many other Americans aren't willing to do this, for whatever personal reasons we may have. Not that I feel disrespect... That's just such an incredible burden in and of itself to bare, and very few are willing to take that burden on. I hope and wish only the best for our soldiers
But also, I hope our politicians' bloody hands make them wake up with a cold sweat from nightmares. And I hope those that bash the soldiers find themselves left alone in such countries which our soldiers are trying to protect us from. I hope people get a clue that these people, our troops, are doing something few of us want them to, but that they're doing these things for us here back home
Luck, hope, safe return to them. Patience, hope, and resilience to their families. And if the worst does come, I wish the strength for their families to go on, and the knowledge that there are still heroes in a country that needs them. Thank you to our soldiers... All of our men and women, our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, husbands, wives, uncles, aunts, neices, nephews, grandfathers, grandmothers, great aunts, great uncles, neighbors, friends. Thank you for your sacrifice

Come on
Come on Jeff! Unfortunate for us but GOP or Dem we don't have a fucking choice! The world is changing. The term "global village" might not be to your liking so call it whatever gives you a political woody. Point is, it is going to happen wether we want it or not.
This is not a debate of what is going to happen it is a debate of how we can deal best with what is happening..
This is the same debate over and over. I just don't see where trying to make someone else feel bad by name calling is a good way to deal with issues. We seem to strike out at each other and that just seems kind of counter productive.
My post above is about more then that. Someday we will have to either shit or get off the pot.
I will hope that the GOP will perform the miracles that some of us want and win the rest over. Does not really matter to me, either party I am OK. I worry about those less fortunate then myself.

I've been lucky enough to meet Paul Tibbits as well as "Dutch" VanDekirk the navigator on the Enola Gay... Also think it's awesome that the Enola is back in one piece and on display in the same field in Chantilly VA where I used to park my work truck 24 years ago.... It's not often you get to shake someones hand and ask them how it feels to have their plane in the Smithsonian in DC...... I've also gotten to meet Robert Morgan pilot of the Memphis Belle and was proud to tell him I was from Altoona (Cecil Scott the Belle's ball turrett gunner was from Altoona)
MY greatest accomplishment was having the sense at age 14 to pester my parents to drive me to Williamsport to meet Pappy Boyington though... although I've visited him many times at Arlington getting to meet him in person and shake his hand when he was still alive was priceless...
