After looking at it, I thought the same thing. It would be a good tool for a lot of the bands in this area to use. I never had any experience with it, so I was mostly just going by the testimonies.greaser wrote:i've been using cdbaby for about 6 years now and have never once had a problem. imho they are an excellent tool for independent musicians. after derick sivers (founder) sold it to discmakers i was a little concerned it might go downhill...but it hasn't. very musician-friendly.
Thanks for putting your input. It is good to see some one local using it and liking the service they offer..

might be good, might not...but i'm gonna give it a try. it's definately a great time to be an independent artist. thank god for the internet, record labels are becoming obsolete, and i love it!!

I've used CDBaby since 1998 and currently have three albums under my name on there. (I also have several other albums there that I either co-wrote on or produced.)
CDBaby is the real deal. I, too, had concerns when Disc Makers bought it from Derek Sivers. But the new owners have really stepped it up. Yes, it's a bit more business-like than when Derek ran it, but it is definitely easy to work and the customer support is top-notch.
My best income from CDBaby is actually from my first disc, "Christmas Piano." Sales went bonkers a few years ago in Japan! But my other two albums do respectably well; more so, nowadays, with digital downloads than physical sales. And every last dime is trackable on their website!
I would strongly suggest using CDBaby as one of your marketing tools. It takes away a lot of the hassles, especially with digital download stores. Twelve years and an ownership change later, I STILL have no complaints!

zupe hits the nail on the head..great marketing tool and very honest. on a related note, derek sivers wrote a blog about the sale to discmakers. it's a great read and pretty inspiring:
