HOMEGROWN ROCKER 10/10/10 (ACOUSTIC JAM SPECIAL)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the October 10 edition of Rocky 99 and Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com) and WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).

This week was a celebration, as we marked the second anniversary of the “Homegrown Rocker” taking flight on the airwaves of Rocky 104.9 (after a ten-year-plus run on another, now defunct, Altoona radio station). We marked the occasion by resurrecting a special program feature we hadn’t done in a couple of years, the “Acoustic Jam Special.” We invited some of this area’s top acoustic players into the Underground Studio to perform songs individually, before pooling their collective talents to jam on some common songs in the show’s homestretch. Thanks to Mama Corn (John Stevens, Bruce Foor, Jeremy Nelson, Kelly Montgomery), Rich Edmundson & Alex Russo, and Ken Gray for bringing their talents to the program, and even letting the show host sit in to play some bongos during the jam session! Thanks also to Underground Studio engineer Keith Reynolds for coordinating the technical side of the session, comic relief and more! Along the way, we recalled one of the show’s most legendary moments, playing the 8-minute acoustic Motorhead “Ace of Spades” jam from the March 13, 2005 “Acoustic Jam Special!” We also debuted new songs from Pan.a.ce.a and Adam Blessing, updated “Local Music News,” and reviewed Object Permanence’s Forever CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” A fun and busy show!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE NIGHTCRAWLERS – “African Echo”
MAMA CORN – “Fearless” (performed live on the air)
MAMA CORN – “Stony Lonesome” (performed live on the air)

KEN GRAY – “Saving Grace” (performed live on the air)

HOUR TWO:

ACOUSTIC JAM MARCH ’05 – “Ace of Spades” (performed live on the air 3/13/05)
ACOUSTIC JAM – “Freestyle Jam” (performed live on the air)

On our next show, we will be joined by Mysterytrain mastermind, singer and guitarist Dan Klock. We’ll also update “Local Music News,” dig into the local music archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and review another new local CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.” Dan Klock of Mysterytrain returns to the “Homegrown Rocker,” this Sunday night!
