Change in format for WHPA 93.5
Change in format for WHPA 93.5
Noticed today that my favorite "60's or the only local "60's" radio station is now broadcasting religious music or something. Now I ain't got nothing against religion but I miss the "60's".
I sometimes notice that when this happens, other local stations change their formats too. Anybody else notice anything?

A station down here, WQZK 94.1, switched from classic rock to hip-hop and pop. It was a shock to a lot of people, as most people had come to like the classic rock format. Sadly, they're no different than the other station in town, which is GO106. Both have a rather limited playlist, and the songs they play the tend to beat to death. I stay in Baltimore during the week, and I listen to 98Rock. It's a great station, but it too will play the same song over and over and over. It seemed like they were playing Godsmack's "Cryin like a bitch" every hour.
Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.
WHPA would play a lot of very overplayed "60's" oldies. Sometimes it seemed like every 3rd or 4th song was either "The 4 Seasons" or "The Supremes" but then they would also play songs that had limmited airplay but were great stuff like "Shake", the second hit after "Gloria" from "The Shadows of Knight" or "Birthday" , the Beatle song by a garage band that sounded better that the Beatles version and other great "Garage Band" stuff.

Take it easy sister but I know what you mean. 99.1 helps but 104.9 with the Professor comes in a bit spotty up here. (Carrolltown). To me Wally 104 got a bit too prostituted. At night I even sometimes try AM radio.I'd rather drive around in silence instead of listening to the crap that other stations play. DOH!
Andy,
I have recently been dealing with quite a few people at regional radio stations for several business reasons and know that local radio is going through many changes due to ownership, format, and other issues. I, too, enjoyed WHPA for the fact they played many tunes that are not heard often anymore.
Hopefully, a station will step up and fill the void in the northern Cambria and Altoona markets for older music.
In the meantime, here are two radio stations that you might be able to pick up that have a similar music format to WHPA, Cool 101.7 FM (Oldies in Johnstown, and what WALY used to play.
Kool 103.3 FM from Punxsutawney

Also, sometimes on the weekends, WIUP 90.1 FM broadcasts oldies and on their Afternoon Archives show Mon - Fri 12:00 - 2:00 they air oldies and classic rock but it is random and the signal is very weak and only in the Indiana, PA area.

I still blame forever broadcasting for all this. They are our local Viacom, meaning they ruin everything they touch.
You should all do yourselves a favor and get satellite radio. That way you won't have the ten song rotation day in and day out.
I don't care of forever sees this - THEY SUCK ! They are the worst station group in this area and will remain so until they realize what music really is ...

Music Rocks!
If you want to listen to a great classic rock radio station live online, click on this link for Q107 in Toronto, Canada. Also, check out the Legends Of Classic Rock shows that are archived on the station website. Good stuff.
